I know nothing about cats, but IBD you have done a wonderful thing. She is beautiful. Lots of luck during the adjustment period. My mom rescued a cat from under a building, and let me tell you that was the luckiest, fattest cat who ever lived. She had her for 13 or 14 years until she died last year. It did take awhile for her to adjust but it was more because of trust issues than anything else. It all worked out very well and they had a lovely relationship.

She supervises the preparation of some really great martinis, but her favorite hors d?oeuvre is fresh tail of lizard.
just as it should be for a queen kitty!

dd....I LOVE your tar!!!

IBD...hope your Miss Kitty is chilling!

My bedmate, Molly, woke me up at 3:30 am....early, but too late to catch the vomit that landed on the bed. Good thing Mr. K left town, AGAIN...he would have not been happy!

kb, i have a male cat (13 years old) who does this too. He isn't very social toward anyone but me. He's very affectionate to me, purrs, rubs, head butts, and then will take a chunk of flesh out at the drop of a hat. And God forbid, I should try to move while he is happy--it's not pretty!

we had a cat mom and dad got a year before i was born, and she died when i was 18. fluffy was the same way - she hated my mom, but would only eat when mom fed her. she would just walk thru the house, go over to mom and bite her, then curl up with me or pop and go to sleep. and she despised my sister when she came along. used to chase her and bite her bottom because she hated the sound the diapers made when my sis would run.

Thanks! It's kinda happy, huh?
I can so relate to the vomit...vomit at our house comes in the form of furballs, you know.

IBD!!! Gosh I wish I had visited the lounge sooner! Your kitty is BEAUTIFUL  ...and it will take her some time to adjust. My older cat liked the pet-purr-bite when he was a kitten, but it was out of the "need to play" more than fear. Another possibility is that she has been around kids who would see she is pretty and try to squeeze her too hard, and while she wants the affection, she gets scared. When I was little, I made a kitten "mean" simply because I tried to love on her too hard (or, that was my mom's explanation for giving my kitten away).

Just give her the space and quiet time, one on one...you are so awesome for saving her! :clap_1:

i love throwing my legs over the side of the bed when i get up and stepping in a big blob of yuck. sad thing is when dory gets sick in the bedroom while i am sleeping it is because she was trying to get me up to let her out, and i wouldn't wake up. i am a bad mommy. now you see why i don't have kids.

Don't you just hate that, especially when the comforter has to be dry cleaned each time? I think my cleaners dislikes me and my 2 dogs!

:bang: ...yeah, I was so hoping it was washable. Can dry cleaning get the stain out? I am leaving soon to drop off...first time I have been able to leave the house. The work other than the wallpaper and wool carpet cleaning should be finished tomorrow. I have had the nicest group of workers from the contractor. They are all family members from Costa Rica! Sophie is the boss and her bil and cousin are the muscle. So nice to have in your home, but I will not miss the dust (again) and Molly barking.

Update....

The cat has been named Francie,
My 5 year old picked it and after a democratic vote Francie won...
She is getting along well just does not like the 100 # Doberman but he is KING of the house and she will have to get over it.
After checking out her teeth she seems to be a bit on the older side. I keep thinking of my home as the kitty nursing home...:floor:

I am mad about one thing though. The adoption was $130 which covered the vet bills, dont mind paying that at all. However they were going to spay her. I noticed her tummy was shaved and really did not hug and love on her too much until today and guess what???? She was already fixed and the vet charged me anyway.. ...now that is soooooooo wrong. I mean did they think that I would not notice a large cut missing???? :idontno: I guess I have a call to make tommorow....

ok right off the bat I know I am wrong for this so here it goes.....

Francie is just not working out. I need a cat to love me and my family and act alive at some point. She never interacts with us except in the closet where she lives. I know I may be asking alot but I do want a new member of the family and she just is not doing it. I am not going to take her to any kill shelter so do not worry. The bay county no kill is full and they have an extensive waiting list. (they are in need of siamese cats if you know of anyone who has one)
Question, does anyone know someone who may want a cat??? I work all day and so the only time I have to interact is on the weekends and at night.

Remember she is really cute

Gosh, IBD, I would love her...but with the two cats I already have (both territorial) and the three dogs  there is just no way. But, I understand the position you are in. Cats have definite personalities, and their dispositions run deep - especially if she is older than you thought. The fact that she was already spayed lends credence to her being an older cat...and either someone's pet, or a repeat kennel cat. And, unlike dogs who eventually figure out where they are in your family (aka "pack"), cats don't.

BTW, I had a cat that came to us as a stray - when we took her to be spayed, they too shaved her and ACTUALLY WENT IN...then discovered there was nothing to take out. They shaved further and finally found the scar on the inside of her leg. The only explanation they could come up with is that it was done as a very young kitten, and as she grew, the scar shifted. :idontno: I still had to pay, though, as she was under anesthesia, further prepped, took time, etc.

Anyway, do what is best for you and your family, and know that you did what you could.

IBD, I'm sorry I can't give this cat a loving home with someone who will be patient with her and nurture her. From what you've just posted, I get the idea that a cat--any cat--is not a good fit for you and your family. Contrary to popular opinion, cats are not nearly as standoffish and independent as their reputation suggests. They need to be around people. They crave interaction with their families as much as dogs do. You can't expect an animal to love you and interact with you on the weekend only: pets can't be turned on and off to suit your needs. If you are craving a new member of the family, I'd suggest a dog to keep the one you already have company, not another cat.

I understand. Remember Lewis our new hamster? He's very anti-social and runs and hides everytime we open the cage. We handled him everyday at the beginning so he would be used to us but I think it's just his personality. He bit Sam last week so she's not too keen on getting him out much.
I'm sure little IBD would like a kitty she can hang out with and play with. Good luck on finding Francie a new home.

I didn't know you had a doggie IBD? The cat may be timid and might be slightly intimidated by the dog regardless of what the shelter told you.

I have to agree with Mermaid. I have two adult cats for many years that were strays actually, and although cats sleep a lot more than dogs, when they are awake, they want attention, and if they don't get it right away, they sulk. If it were up to one of my cats, he would be in my lap all day.
The also like to play even though they are older. Female cats especially need more stimulation as their instinct is to hunt and bring back food for their young, so chasing strings, and balls stimulate them or they get bored easy.

Kittens are much more difficult to manage. They require a "training period" as well, and they get into everything! I got sucked into bringing home a kitten from a little boy at the grocery store. We named it Hannibal Lecter. It would climb walls and scratch etc. It got to the point where I was afraid to come home! Fortunately my friends cat has just passed and the cat looked like her previous one, and she took the kitten.

IBD: wish I could take her, but I've got two cats inside, two out and a lab. the lab makes the lives of the cats miserable. I would love to bring her home with me, but just can't. I hope you do find a good home for Francie. She's a beautiful cat.

OK, I am about to boo hoo now, my son and his wife are getting rid of the 3 bigger cats. Caesar, Cammy and Patty. I made it clear to them I did not want them in a animal shelter where they will be put down. They are worried Caesar who is around 9 years old and just stays on the couch in the living room sleeping or under the couch will get in the baby bed. The two female sisters would be more likely to do that. They are going to try and find them good homes first. Our Collierville Animal Shelter is a no kill shelter, as is they say the Bartlett Animal Shelter. I do not believe that. Anyway, I wish some of the cat lovers on this forum site were closer that could take them. Caesar is the calmest cat. And Cammy and Patty are going to be highly upset that they will no longer be with their human mommy and daddy they have known for almost a year. Do cats remember certain people that long??? I am sad! :(

Lady, do you have a Pet Smart store or pet shop near you? There used to be a house with a barn owned by an elderly man 13 years ago in my neighborhood before it got built up. The man let cats live in his barn and didnt neuter or spay, and some of them would make their way around the neighborhood.
My neighbors and I brought some cats over a two year period that strayed off his land that were friendly to Pet Smart, and they were adopted quite quickly.

There is a Pet Smart out in Cordova. Don't know where you lived. If it was that area, that area is so built up now I am sure his house isn't there. I am hoping they will take them to the Collierville Animal Shelter as it is definitely a no kill shelter. They are on tv every Saturday morning with some shelter dogs that they are trying to find homes for. I would rather them do an online form on the House of Mews site. They can fill it out online stating having to get rid of their cat because of a new baby, etc. And when they have room available, then they take them in. I sure don't want them to get rid of Caesar. He belonged to my son's best friend Trey. He has a dog and the dog was pulling the cat's hair out so he got my son to take him.
