Last night the St.Louis and surrounding areas had some very severe storms, there are 500,000 people without power (ktschris is one) there was 92 mile and hour wind"s and lightning like I have never seen in my entire life!!! Ktschris has been looking for a hotel room and there are NONE in St.louis to be found, we had record breaking heat today and many people have to deal with this at least for two to three days (thats what ameren U.E is predicting as of right now) I am one of the lucky ones, I have ac and my food is not spoiling and our neighborhood only had to deal with six or seven trees down.
I know what your thinking..................why dont you have Ktschris stay with you!!!!..........well I have my Mom here, she had a heart attack last week and she just couldn"t deal with the heat......I just wanted to pass this along, this is the craziest thing to happen in our area for a while!!!!!

How awful. We've been through the same experience here in Indianapolis--July thunderstorms roll through, knock out the power, the whole wazoo. The heat only intensifies the misery. I think it was 2-3 Julys ago that we went without electricity for three and a half days. It gives you a whole new perspective on life, when you're in total darkness every evening, way before the regular bedtime. And meals! It makes you really creative, not having a stove or fridge. Thank god for gas grills.
If we weren't five hours away, I'd offer our spare bedroom.

How awful!! Tell ktschris that I'm thinking of her--and all others affected. She can come on down to Texas and stay in my upstairs.

That is truly awful! I can't imagine being without A/C right now. If my place in FL was available, I'd have you tell her to head south! Tell her we are thinking of her, but don't mention how cool we are in our A/Ced homes!

I'm so sorry, I wish there was something I could do. Why do these things always happen at the hottest or coldest day of the year? We'll be thinking of you all.

The lightning was something else! A friend of mine said she actually saw red lightning last night. Can't believe we just went through this months ago, and here we are again. There are areas in Fairview Heights that still aren't totally repaired from the last storm, and now the entire city is out of power again. We were lucky here in Belleville, so sorry to hear about poor ktschris.

Same thing here in N. Louisiana. We had a fierce storm last night that came from Mississippi. They never move in that direction. Lovely green sky, hail, 70 mph winds...lots of power out. It did move us down 20 degrees for the night which was a blessing, but it's about 100 again today. I can't wait to get to SoWal on Sat. I dont'' care if it freakin' rains the entire time as long as it isn't 100 degrees or more.

Shoot! Wish Georgia wasn't so far away! Plenty of room and power! Are there any guesstimates on when power may be restored?

So sweet of you to ask......she says she is "feeling fine" we are taking her to Branson next week to just get away and see some shows, then she can return to work after that.......but I will be worried from now till the end of time, she"s my Mom
and I am scared because this attack gave no warning signs, so I will be worried from now on.

Wow. I guess I haven't been following the news because this is the first I heard of this! Hope the electricity comes on soon for all those affected. New England I know is expecting a tropical storm sometime tomorrow (my family is from New England so I tend to know what's going on with weather there).

Just keep her exercising and eating right! That is what I worry about most with my mom. Right now she's doing pretty good but she goes through phases of not eating healthy at all.

Wow, That sounds awful. I haven't watched the news either. Glad she's somewhere cool. Hopefully it won't take as long as they think for the power to come back on.

I live about 5 hours from St. Louis and my husband works for Century Tel phone company, he was called out on emergency tonight to go up near St. Louis to help restore phone service. He said it is a real mess, electrical lines down everywhere and people without power and phones.
We had record breaking heat today, 104 degrees in our little town, and that was the actual temp!! With the humidity factored in, the heat index was 115!!!

Hope things get better very soon for ya'll. I saw that there were numerous injuries due to high winds at the new Busch Stadium on Wednesday night - as if the heat in and of itself weren't already bad enough. Those St. Louis summers can be brutal!

I worried about ya'll when I saw this in the news. So sorry for ktchris. I'm not really close by but would still do anything to help. Last time this happened to me I lost so much food. If she needs anything please pm me.

You guys are all sooo sweet. Thanks so much. This morning I HAVE POWER!!! :clap_1: :clap_1: :clap_1:
Never realized how spoiled I am. Last night, after work, I went home to pack some stuff for the kids to spend the night at a friends house. Every time I walked into a room, I reached over and flip the d*** switch. It's amazing how and what we take for granted. At least we are having a break in the weather today, only supposed to get into the mid 80's.
Elec. Co. says there are still 400,000 without. My sister is still out, she had to take her dog to the HS this morning. They have set up emergency shelters for pets without power. A large donation is going there way!
And yes, seagrovelover, I do go where the gin bucket is, Chris and I shared one last night
Thanks again guys for your well wishes!

Hey, kts, there you are! So glad to hear the news. When I said bedtime prayers with the kids last night, I said thanks for us not losing our power--you realize what a big deal it is when it affects so many people.

Yeah, I should have known when I booked a room for tonight, that I would have power
But hey, we are going to be down here for the concert under the arch anyway...so I think we'll keep the room.
So PeaPod, just in case you decided to come down tonight, I will wear my SoWal sticker somewhere -- keep your eyes open!
