Last night the St.Louis and surrounding areas had some very severe storms, there are 500,000 people without power (ktschris is one) there was 92 mile and hour wind"s and lightning like I have never seen in my entire life!!! Ktschris has been looking for a hotel room and there are NONE in St.louis to be found, we had record breaking heat today and many people have to deal with this at least for two to three days (thats what ameren U.E is predicting as of right now) I am one of the lucky ones, I have ac and my food is not spoiling and our neighborhood only had to deal with six or seven trees down.
I know what your thinking..................why dont you have Ktschris stay with you!!!!..........well I have my Mom here, she had a heart attack last week and she just couldn"t deal with the heat......I just wanted to pass this along, this is the craziest thing to happen in our area for a while!!!!!

Yeah, I should have known when I booked a room for tonight, that I would have power :)

But hey, we are going to be down here for the concert under the arch anyway...so I think we'll keep the room.

So PeaPod, just in case you decided to come down tonight, I will wear my SoWal sticker somewhere -- keep your eyes open!
So, you're still going to the concert, you trooper! Mr. Pod is a lifelong Cheap Trick fan, but we won't be able to go tomorrow night because Littlest Pea's birthday party is tomorrow. Let us know how Todd and Toad are!

 You guys are all sooo sweet. Thanks so much.

This morning I HAVE POWER!!! :clap_1: :clap_1: :clap_1:

Never realized how spoiled I am. Last night, after work, I went home to pack some stuff for the kids to spend the night at a friends house. Every time I walked into a room, I reached over and flip the d*** switch. It's amazing how and what we take for granted. At least we are having a break in the weather today, only supposed to get into the mid 80's.

Elec. Co. says there are still 400,000 without. My sister is still out, she had to take her dog to the HS this morning. They have set up emergency shelters for pets without power. A large donation is going there way!

And yes, seagrovelover, I do go where the gin bucket is, Chris and I shared one last night

Thanks again guys for your well wishes!

Hey girl...I am so glad you are ok and with power now. When you get home tonight, have another Gin bucket!!!!

Glad to hear you have power KT! My son and daughter-in-law live in South St. Louis County area and they still are without power. My 86 year old mother in Affton is still out as well, and until this a.m. shes refused to leave her home. It's so frustrating! She's been staying in her finished basement. We tried to get her to leave yesterday but she was adament that she was staying home. She finally agreed to go stay with my sister this morning. My son, daughter-in-law and their two dogs have been staying with us. My bunny isn't too thrilled about the dogs, but we're managing to keep them apart. ;-)

We were discussing last night how this situation is so minor compared with what happened to the poor folks in New Orleans and Mississippi following Katrina and Rita last year. They had absolutely NO place to cool off, no fresh drinking water, and the poor animals had to stay back and suffer. At least in our situation in St. Louis, there are homes with power, and lots of folks have opened their homes to those without.

Ironically my son and his wife are leaving for Louisiana on Sunday for one week with other members of their church group to help rebuild homes for hurricane victims. This situation with having lost power in their own home has made them even more aware of how helpless these people truly were (and many still are).

The Missouri National Guard has been called to assist and they are going door-to-door checking on people. Ameren UE is saying that their goal is to have most homes with power by tomorrow evening, but given the magnitude of this outage they say many could be without for several more days. My daughter-in-law said she saw a sign yesterday afternoon in front of someone's home offering their home as a place to cool off. Luckily there are many shelters and churches who are now open, and they're remaining pretty full.

Hopefully things will be back to normal soon. It is so very hot and humid.

Ohmygosh  As I'm typing, I'm looking out my office window and the clouds are looking quite ominous at the moment! I'm seeing a squall line and the winds are increasing by the minute. Trees are beginning to bend again! This would be awful if another monster blows through!

It's getting darker and windier by the minute. Gotta run to check on things. More info later!

This video was played on the news last night...it shows how hard the wind was blowing through the stadium. I was told from people that were there, that the stadium exits were lock and no one was allowed to leave. This shows a trash can, but they said they witness large beer carts being tossed around.

That had to be really frightening! Mother Nature can sure be skeery sometimes!

Glad you have your power back. Sounds like you've got the right idea about staying in the hotel close to the concert. You guys deserve some relaxation after the past couple of days! Hope you have "calm" weather tonight.

Crikey! I'm just now signing back on and checking in--that was another doozie! My neighbor's tree is on his garage roof, our gazebo was nearly airborne, Mr. Pod is on his way home from work--tornado touched down out there, all power is out--and I've been watching the news.
For all you St. Louis Sowallers, they're saying that we're getting another bad batch around 4 or so, then another set of storms around 9, and by 1 a.m. we should be in the clear.
Wait...Mr. Pod on the phone, driving away from work, saying it's a disaster area with news helicopters overhead. One of his employees lost every tree in her yard except 1...! Be careful out there, everybody.

Friday at Noon and still no power. Sleeping in the basement isn't what it's made up to be. We just had another major storm. I'm on the 28th floor and saw something dropping by my window (no it wasn't a flying cow) and the guy 2 offices a way had one of his windows either blow out or was struck my something. Midwest summer storms are sure a lot of fun.

My daughter-in-law has a friend who was in the bar in the Soulard area that collapsed during Wednesday night's storm. She just e-mailed to say that her friend's husband is paralyzed from the waist down as a result of injuries suffered in that collapse. I don't have any other details. Hopefully the paralysis is temporary. They are in their mid-20's and have only been married one year. This is so sad. :(

This is so sad guys. I'm so sorry. Sorry so late onto the thread. I was gonna tell ktchris to head down this way and stay in my place but happy to hear your power is back. People don't realize how nasty it gets without power and water but it's terrible.

Seagrovelover, it must have been so scary for you when your mom had the attack. I'm glad she's doing better. Have funn in Branson .

Luvthebeach, thats absolutely tragic. My prayers are with them.

Steven's roommate in Columbia, MO says a friend of theirs at Wash U is coming to stay the weekend with him. The roommate's mom emailed me about it...she thought it sounded suspicious! Because of this thread, I was able to set her straight!I do hope people are gettting back to normal. This is like our first storm of the season. :(

Sunday at Noon and still no power--electricity is really overrated. It's amazing how many times you keep turning on the light switch or think about watching a sporting event on TV or listening to the radio. At least the temps have cooled off.

Wow, I feel for you STL....my sister's power came back on yesterday morning. I have a friend that lives in Oakville -- he is still w/o power, but they were told maybe by 9 tonight. And there is ice available again, it was hard to find for the last couple of days. It is a relief that the temp has come down, I actually had to wear a sweatshirt last night.

Sports update...Cards won, and Tiger won.
