okay my little fitness wannabees... here it is. and thanks for deciding on this thread name. After sharing our goals and strategies for fitness and weight reduction, we'll all be sowell on sowal!!!

Cork and I are doing at least one yoga/pilates class per week now. plus we bicycled the other day (almost killed me). and plan to do exercise on our own at home as well.

as far as diet and weight reduction, we haven't really gotten very far. I'm reading two current resources for motivation and just general info: Body for Life for Women (A Woman's plan for Physical and Mental Transformation) - Pamela Peeke, MD, and The Reality Diet (fight fat with fiber) - Schnur, MD. They are both really straightforward, no nonsense approaches to weight loss - and include a lot of info on weekly menus, exercise, etc.

I know that I will need a menu plan to follow in the first 3 months of my "transformation". If I have a reasonable menu to follow, then I don't mind shopping and cooking. Having it all planned out makes it easier for me, and it makes me eat things that I would otherwise avoid or not think about eating (it expands the culinary experience)...

What are your goals? I need to finish up some of my reading and then I plan to put my goals on paper, along with my plan to achieve them. I have also already started a food and exercise journal.

I'll be sharing some of this with you. I hope we can all share successes, questions, recipes, exercise tips, etc... hope to see you on here every day looking for motivation and at the same time giving support to all of us.. :D

this is not too bad at all. no regrets! so, you had a funn week. I'm sure you are back on it today.

I am so pasta-addicted. as long as I stay away from it (and not cook it) I'm fine. If I cook it which I did this weekend, I eat it every day which I did... and I'm not talking about the little 1/2 cup serving of whole wheat pasta either. definitely not a good choice. I must change my behavior now and stay away from the pasta (and wine). I resolve to do so, and I've said so in writing in this post!!! :!:

I've joined the SoWell group...last week wasn't overly kind, although I did ejoy a walk every afternoon on the beach. Tomorrow will be detox day...I may hurt someone:lol:
Tootsie, I like the idea of measuring and weighing. Sometimes inches show better than pounds.
My goal is 20 pounds by November 1 requiring daily exercise which is my downfall. I'll keep you posted with successes and failures.

MONDAY MORNING WEIGH-IN: -5 lbs

taking measurements today (will report any changes starting next Mon).

Diet..mostly low carb. I do not do well with tons of choices as I do not have a portion control valve. I do eat whole grains....exercise that is the issue. I will try to walk 4 days a week and do a cardo video the rest. I may even join a gym:eek: Hate to waste money if I am not going to do it.

The school where I teach is implementing a fitness program for the students...EVERYONE will walk ten minutes each day and we will chart the progress. I am curious to see how it goes as we have a lot of children who spend their free time with video games or in front of the tv.

You know I realized it wasn't the pasta I missed as much as I missed the sauce! So, I started putting meat sauce on my chicken, lots of it.
YUMMY.

When I taught Kindergarten (yes believe it or not) all the teachers that wanted to gave $$ and then the one who lost the largest amount won the cash. Teaching is hard esp, if you have a younger grade b.c of all the snacks....I think that is a great idea for students as so many kids these days do not exercise....:bang:

Good to meet you IBD... As for the job, snacking can become a real problem. My students laugh that I eat cheese everyday and have a can of nuts on the desk....and some dark chocoate. Only 2 pieces of it..unless it is really bad.

How long did you teach? Was it in FL? I good friend on mine just moved to Destin and is teaching. She got a huge pay raise, but the housing cost offset it.

Dark chocolate.....yumm!!!!!!:D

I taught Kindergarten for 7 years and 6&7th grade (which was the worse 3 months of my life)

I taught in Natalbany, Louisiana. Small town? outside of Hammond, Louisiana. Loved it but pay was bad....

about 50 crackers with 3 different kinds of sliced cheese
pasta w/marinara and Italian sausage (2 platefuls)
a tiny bit of salad (for looks)
3 fat pieces of french bread
1 piece tiramisu
1 piece chocolate cake
1 glass red wine

plus picked at what Kate didn't finished:blush:

I am a P.I.G. Pig!!! I'm hoping that maybe I have a tapeworm because I am starving all of the time lately!

NO!!!!! I just didn't want Dr. Skunkape to think I was insulting his profession! I'm assuming too that he is as competent as he is funny.

I'm scared to ask- what is a vv doctor??

no, I definitely miss the PASTA, cooked ever so al dente, with not too much sauce and fresh parmegan cheese, preferrably a long pasta so that the twirl can be expertly used... ahhhhhhhhhhh.....:D
