okay my little fitness wannabees... here it is. and thanks for deciding on this thread name. After sharing our goals and strategies for fitness and weight reduction, we'll all be sowell on sowal!!!

Cork and I are doing at least one yoga/pilates class per week now. plus we bicycled the other day (almost killed me). and plan to do exercise on our own at home as well.

as far as diet and weight reduction, we haven't really gotten very far. I'm reading two current resources for motivation and just general info: Body for Life for Women (A Woman's plan for Physical and Mental Transformation) - Pamela Peeke, MD, and The Reality Diet (fight fat with fiber) - Schnur, MD. They are both really straightforward, no nonsense approaches to weight loss - and include a lot of info on weekly menus, exercise, etc.

I know that I will need a menu plan to follow in the first 3 months of my "transformation". If I have a reasonable menu to follow, then I don't mind shopping and cooking. Having it all planned out makes it easier for me, and it makes me eat things that I would otherwise avoid or not think about eating (it expands the culinary experience)...

What are your goals? I need to finish up some of my reading and then I plan to put my goals on paper, along with my plan to achieve them. I have also already started a food and exercise journal.

I'll be sharing some of this with you. I hope we can all share successes, questions, recipes, exercise tips, etc... hope to see you on here every day looking for motivation and at the same time giving support to all of us.. :D

IBD: I too was in a slump (kind of in general) and I read this article this morning -- it's for work (about leadership and change) but I thought it was great. It's short and it talks about making changes -- It inspired me to change my identity from "feeling frumpty" to "fabulous". The guy who wrote it used to be very overweight and, though he was/is extremely successful, looked horrible (pale, overweight, not heading toward a long and healthy life). Well, he went away on a "mission" for his churce for three years and he came back fit and trim and no one recognized him. So, he speaks about change from personal experience. After reading the short 3-page article, I made up a whole little change plan for me today (while the workshop participants were watching a video) and I'm so excited about it (some has to do with weight/health, some with family, and some with work).

Seems like we have a new theme song "Whip it" for SoWell on SoWal.

As for what time it is here in Hong Kong, I believe I'm 12 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. So, as I type this at 4:30 on Wednesday morning, I think it's 4:30 in the afternoon on Tuesday there. I haven't adjusted to the time change completely yet, but I'm doing OK.

But I'm not going to be able to start my real healthy diet until I get back because I've been eating very good food here. I ate at this great restaurant, M at the Fringe, last night and it was pretty amazing. Anybody who goes to Hong Kong should definitely try this restaurant. Here's a link to this wonderful restaurant just so you know why I couldn't pass it up. I had gnocci with white truffle sauce as an appetizer and then a crab souffle. But, thanks to SoWell I did pass on the dessert (I'm not sure that was a smart thing to do though) and I've been drinking more water and eating more fruit and eating lighter breakfasts than I normally would here. I don't think I'll be worse off with my weight when I get back, but I don't think I'll have lost any weight either.

How's the salsa? I'm in search of the best salsa. Too many of the restaurants puree their tomatos until the salsa is more like tomato juice. :bang:

Paula, when I get more than five minutes, I can't wait to REALLY read this. It's been hectic for a couple of days. But, I love what you said here!

I need to!

Crack!! Snap!! BB, all is can offer you is my vast amount of wisdom on this topic:floor: We're glad you're here! And if I could say one thing it's if you don't know where to start, start slow. Increase your exercise some and maybe reduce portions. Girls?

Yeah, I already heard about that pie. But, in Section 14, Part 2, Subsection 3 of the SoWell Mofo Wenches Committee Rules, pumpkin pie is allowed after one has moved hundreds of miles and is starting a whole new life. This rule only applies for one week, or until the pie is gone, whichever comes first.

Come on!!! Just do it!!!

Ok ladies - sorry I didn't chime in yesterday on official weigh-in day. I needed to wait until after I worked out at the Y tonight and attempted to redeem myself after several days of misbehaving (I can't remember the last time I ate pizza 3 times in 4 days!)

Anyway, the good news is I finally reached my goal of losing 120 lbs last week. The bad news is I ate too much pizza over the weekend and gained a few back. But I went to the Y tonight and rode the elliptical for 55 minutes AND did all my weight machines. So I'll be back on track before you know it (and hopefully back down to my goal weight within a week!) After tomorrow I am off of work for 5 straight days, so it should be easy for me to find time to continue working out and cook healthy meals. If I get back down to my goal, I'll reward myself with a cosmo or two (haven't had one in over 6 months - next Monday is my b-day and I'll have been officially living this healthier lifestyle for a year!)

And if I can do this ladies, anyone can - take it from someone who could look back on the first 42 years of her life and count on 2 hands the number of times she ever "really" exercised. It is never too late to change.

Sorry I have been AWALL on SoWal....to many stresses in my life. Maybe things will calm down this winter. Got a sweet pm from dd and knew I had to come back to life. As for weight loss, each day is a battle so I just try not to mess up too badly.

:clap_1: lindabobhat. You are an inspiration! Congratulations. I really don't see myself as an exerciser either (Mermaid tried to get me to go kayaking and couldn't convince me), but I'm hoping to be a new-me, a new-exercising-me next week. I'll be checking out the various gyms in town to find a good "fit".
