Let's hear from a former Spanish speaking career detective who happens to also be a forensic criminologist:

Recent crime analysis by both the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Texas law enforcement authorities indicate that between June 2011 and March 2017, over 217,000 criminal immigrants were arrested and booked into Texas jails.
In researching the criminal careers of these defendants, it was revealed that they had jointly committed over nearly 600,000 criminal offenses. Their arrests included nearly 1,200 homicides; almost 69,000 assaults; 16,854 burglaries; 700 kidnappings; nearly 6,200 sexual assaults; 69,000 drug offenses; 8,700 weapons violations; over 3,800 robberies and over 45,000 obstructing police charges. In determining the status of these offenders in the U.S., it was confirmed by DHS that over 173,000 or 66 percent of these immigrant criminal defendants were in our country illegally at the times of their arrests.

I would support a bipartisan study, including independent experts, to be done to determine the cost and effectiveness then have congress vote on it before spending billions for the unknown.

Regarding "illegals" or undocumented workers. For 15 years or better, Trump hired illegals to work in his resorts, many of whom had worked for him since the early 90's. Only when the pressure mounted and Trump resorts came under investigation into the hiring practices of his resorts did he jump ship and abandon his hard working employees when, initially their legal status didn't matter to him. Can we say "hypocrite"? And just so you know...illegal immigrants have paid more in payroll taxes (undocumented immigrants have paid $12 billion dollars in taxes, every single year) than Donald Trump has in the last 20 years...money I might add they don't get back!!

Michael Light, a criminologist at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, looked at whether the soaring increase in illegal immigration over the last 3 decades caused a commensurate jump in violent crimes: murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

While 9,570 citizens of various African countries entered Israel illegally in the first half of 2012, only 34 did the same in the first six months of 2013 – a decrease of over 99 percent.

Definitely not racist. Yes, roaches. Roaches, unlike other invited animals (pets) into one's home, sneak in. They come in to feed, breed, and generally hide in the shadows. They are vectors; they carry diseases, they are dirty. We don't know who they are, when they came in, how many there are.
Pets, (let's use dogs for example sake), are welcomed in. Pets are prepped when entering the house. They are vaccinated, dewormed, etc. in order to assimilate into the pack. And then once part of the family, they have their role to make the pack better. We provide them food and shelter; they (dogs) provide an excellent alarm system (mine does) and fearless protection.
I believe America's diversity is our strength. But this only works when new Americans decide to become Americans in their hearts, pledge allegiance to America, and leave the country they left behind, not try and create a "Little ______" here in America.
Side post: If you want to have a profound American experience, I really, really recommend going over to Pensacola and attend a Naturalization Ceremony. You will see new Americans "being born". People are dressed in their Sunday best, families are there, there are many tears of joy. I know; I went to one and I had a personal interest in it.

No one should give up their heritage. You have the mindset of those who wanted to strip native Americans of their customs and languages and force them to conform to the white mans way of life. Why didn’t the settlers try to assimilate into the culture of the America they witnessed upon arrival?
