Does anyone else go out on Black Friday shopping?
If so, here is a link for store ads before you see them in the newspaper.
http://bfads.net/
It's like a holiday for me, my sister and several friends.
First we post all the ads on a bulletin Board. We have a meeting on Thanksgiving Eve. Attendance is mandatory.
Using a pointer, and a map, we write down all the items that are of the highest priority and how many we want. The list is divided up by all participants.
The rendevous is at 4:30 am.
All cadets must bring an eye opener from the list usually hot cocoa, coffee, bagels, or muffins.
The cadets with the largest cars are drivers.
"Its the most wondeful time of the Year" is the official theme song for our trek.
Antlers are our helmets.
Rules are run into store, no deviation from said path to assigned items and meet back into the parking lot or on line. Any deviants must do 20 push ups.
Finished by 9:30 am and gather at my sisters house where my BIL makes us grayt pancakes.
Nap by 11:00 am.

Mango, I was thinking about all the Black Friday ads. It takes me about an hour to read the paper on Thanksgiving morning!
The weather is absolutely beautiful here today so if it holds, it'll be a great shopping weekend.

We didn't download them all, just Target, Kohls and KB toys. I do not venture to go anywhere near Toy's r us on BF.

There was an ad on the TV ten minutes ago that said Kohls was opening at--get this--5 am!!!!! I don't normally use this expression but I will now: WTF!!!!

OMG, Mermy used the f word?
Reread the memo gullfriend. We leave at 4:30 am.
Kohl's has toys set up (they normally do not have a toy dept. but do on Black Friday) every toy is 50% off.
We basically are sleepwalking, and laughing very hard. :funn:
I just wanted to add that our favorite part around 9:30 am when we are finished is we go to the mall, and take turns running in with a doorbuster gift toy for Toys for Tots before we head home. They usually on the ground floor of the mall.

I made the vow a few years ago to never go back to a mall or big box store around Christmas. Talk about spoiling the holiday mood! All my seasonal $$$ goes to indy shops and online merchants. This approach reduces the amount of seasonal stress and therefore makes it more enjoyable. But if you like fighting over 'stuff' at 0500, have funn

Skunky, we avoid stores that have large crowds. We have been doing this for years, and we never have seen an argument or any fighting. The store staff have been pleasant and helpful. We do not go to large malls or anything.
If it was stressful, we wouldn't do it.
Matter of fact, I do the bulk of my shopping on-line and come home with very little. I mainly get toys for my nephews and for charity.
Of course we get some good deals, but it has become a tradition with my sisters and close friends and we look forward to having funn.

I personally don't think it's fair to night owls (like moi) that stores open at 5 am. I say equal billing! If you're going to open up at ungodly hour for the early birds, do us a favor, too. Like how about staying open 'til 2 am? Now that's a sale I'd sink my teeth into! ;-)
cracker
Mermy, we have downloaded the store ad scans from BFADS.com and the meeting is tomorrow night. There have been a few conference calls in the meantime. :funn: I still have to go up in the attic and get the pointer, maps, and break out the Santa hat and reindeer headgear.
Please send us pics Mango!!!!

You're right. It's discrimination. I say we start a class action night owl law suit.
Currently I am forced to lay out my clothes the night before because God only knows what I would wind up wearing when I get up at 4 am.

OK, but it won't be pretty. Woman dressed like elves with hair pulled back, no cosmetics, and antlers or Santa hats with bags under our eyes drinking gallons of coffee. Norad tracks us on with GPS, so you can see where we are and whats' in the minivan. :funn:

Thanks for the website. Found a great deal on a laptop and daughter is getting a video camera for her trip to Europe. Let's see if I survive the early morning rush!

Hope you're having great funn today, Mango! I'm saying out of the malls today, going to my sister's store instead to pick up some gifts, and surfing the net a bit, watching a movie in the hotel room with the family, and then doing some visiting with family for brunch.

Anyone find any great deals out there? Mango, how'd it go? Are you asleep?
So far online today I bought a pink Nintendo DS, an ipod fm remote tuner, and some toys from Target.
FYI--Apple has a sale today on ipods.

OMG for the first time ever I decided to join in on the madness!!!!!! I don't know what possessed me! There's a Kohl's just a few blocks from my house so I figured it wouldn't be too bad - not attached to a major mall or anything. Woke up at 4:30AM and made it there just after they opened - $286 and two hours later I was finished. Then I hit the mall. My best deal - an Analon grill pan, normally $60, on sale for $30 and I used a $10 coupon so it was just $20 (now I can get rid of the huge indoor electric grill that takes up so much space on my counter!) I also got a leather jacket at Kohl's that was normally $180, on sale for $49.99 with an add'l 15% off - so it was $42.50. It's not a top of the line jacket but definitely worth what I paid. Also got a lot of cute clothes for my kids who will be disappointed that Santa didn't get them more toys! Now I'm headed back to Kohl's to return a few things.

Black Friday gull checking in. ;-)
We veered off course today and decided to start at a different Kohls than we normally go to since the other one was close to an Old Navy and that was mistake number one. It threw our schedule off by 1:30 hrs
and my sister was off her game this year because of the baby teething, so she was straying quite a bit, and I didn't have the heart to make her do push ups for punishment.
Grayt buy was a digital coffee maker, black and stainless for only $14
61 Piece dish set for $49.99
Angora socks -60% off
Plush Blanket reg. $69.00 for $19 for my beach guest room
We got some grayt buys on toys as well at Toys R us, and was surprised to see the store as empty as it was. We also had our own personal shopper, she helped us run around and get us what we needed, since we needed multiples of the same items.
We hit a couple of other stores like Sears for doorbusters (tools) and then ended our shopping by dropping off some of the toy doorbusters at our church, who is collecting for Toys for Tots.
and of course we had the pancakes.
Although we laughed a lot, the best laugh was our sister calling from Texas on walkie talkie to check in, and tell us she was at Home Depot because she had to rent a truck. :funn:

my sister went to best buy at 2:30 am to stand in line for tickets for the HP laptop deal. she didn't get it. folks had been camped out since Thanksgiving Day (afternoon). she did get a lap top but spent quite a bit more than planned. sounds like a pretty good ploy on behalf of the store, huh? but, she was pleased with what all she got for the kids' christmas, and she was almost finished with all her shopping, so maybe it was worth it... I still don't get it.

Tootsie, Best Buy has been doing that for years. No one I know falls for their loss leaders anymore, at least not here--sort of like once burned, twice shy. Best Buy regularly under-stocks the items that people come in stampedes for, knowing that if people have invested so many hours of their time, they'll be dammed if they come away empty-handed. I'll never forget when my friend Sally, who is a lawyer and very sensitive to what skirts the bad side of deceptive advertising, got throw out of Best Buy for pitching a fit about them not having something in stock they featured prominently in their ad. It was pretty much "bait and switch" and she was furious and let them have a piece of her mind. It was magnificent. She let it rip! But she still was escorted out the door.

That stinks.
We don't bother with electronics for that reason. My sister in Texas went to Circuit City for a TV at 5 am and she said people were tailgating in the parking lot. She didn't get the TV she went for either. She did find another one that was a good deal, but then she didn't know how to get it home, so she rented a truck from Home Depot.
We drove by Best Buy and could see the parking lot from the road, and what a madhouse, and its right near the parking lot for Walmart, so you can imagine that zoo.
We shop where there are no mass malls are strip shopping. Nice and quiet.
Even our Toys R Us was quieter than I thought, and they had helpers walking around.
I heard some stores opened yesterday and stayed open till midnight. First time I heard that one.

this is really bad business, cause some families are really trying to get the high tech stuff their older kids would like for christmas, and then they end up spending more money than they can afford, and wasting valuable time standing in line at 2:30 am, etc. what a bad deal (or maybe they are still getting good deals, I really don't know)...
