331 Bridge Closed due to fatal accident [re-opened]

Road Closure Notification Update:
FHP is on scene at the crash on Clyde B Wells Bridge (331). There is one confirmed fatality. The bridge will be closed for the duration of their investigation. A notification will be sent out once the bridge is back open.

A two car accident Saturday cased the death of one Freeport resident and sent another to the hospital. Saturday evening a 1997 Geo was southbound on the Clyde Wells Bridge as a 2011 Hyundai Elantra, driven by 65-year-old Kathleen Brice, of Freeport, was northbound. According to the FHP, the geo traveled to the left and entered the northbound lanes. The front of the Geo collided with the front of Hyundai. A Freeport resident driving the Hyundai was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Miramar Beach where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver’s name is being withheld pending family notification. Tests are pending on the deceased, but not on the driver of the second vehicle. Charges are pending the investigation.

The FHP has released the name of the accident fatality victim from the two vehicle crash on the bridge. The fatality is 53-year-old Carlos Hernandez-Trejo, of Freeport.
