We're new to the area and my daughter goes to school with this girl, although mine is younger and doesn't know her. Her name is Ally and I think she's maybe 12 years old and in 7th grade at ECMS. There was an article about her in the school newspaper speaking at this event in California.

After watching this I was just kind of blown away and I'm just curious if anyone else thinks maybe the schools here are doing something right, or is this just an anomaly?

Hope this link works:

There are a lot of great kids like Ally in our school system! Unfortunately the negative news is always the loudest-but there are so many parents who are mostly happy with the improvements our schools are seeing every year, they just aren't on message boards and FB. One of my biggest gripe is that we need to do a better job in talking about the good things going on- because they far outnumber the negative. In this community, PR is everything!

No system is perfect- sad stories come out of public schools AND $20K a year private schools, but for some reason there are people who blame the school for the small minority of kids who are causing the problems here. The school didn't raise them. ;)

Thanks for posting this! I posted this on my FB page too- she is wonderful and it will be fun to follow her adventures in the future.

From my experience, bright, happy kids are all over SoWal, in all the schools! And why not? This is a great place for children and families to thrive.

No, I can't say I'm happy with today's form of education on many levels.

No school is perfect - public or private. The family/home makes all the difference.

I'm just an ol' guy no longer involved in the school system, but everyone should take the time to view this presentation. While delivered by an obviously exceptionally bright and intelligent young lady, she didn't get that way all by herself. It is an encouraging example of our school system as well as her obvious abilities.
