Right here!
Besides the White House review, the top U.S.-NATO commander in Afghanistan, Gen. David Petraeus, must convince allies at a NATO gathering next month that his war strategy is working and the campaign deserves continued support.

The Taliban are being battered in the south in offensives by fortified NATO forces, but militants remain active in the east and have opened new fronts in the north. Insurgents have been beaten back in the past, only to quickly reclaim lost territory.

"We genuinely believe that we are beginning to show real progress," said Mark Sedwill, the NATO force's top civilian official. "We're very cautious about it. We're not beating our chests suggesting that suddenly 2010 has been dramatically different from what happened before."

Good news.

Why is it we see so little reporting on the current state of the Afghanistan war?

because Obama doesn't want to remind people that we increased the number of troops, though his campaign stump speech talked about bringing all the troops home. That, plus they don't want to remind Americans that we are still at war.

Probably something to do with protecting electronics manufacturers interests. We're basically there now so we can get all of the rare Earth minerals out. Once those are mined we'll head home.

Elephant in the room comes to mind...
Gitmo is still up and running..

Yeah, funny how a candidate wanted to shut it down without knowing that his predecessor had done such a horrible job that many of the prisoners could never be prosecuted even in a military tribunal. He probably should have breached security and found all of that out huh?

I think that the war (and Gitmo) is a non-issue for most folks these days. With underemployment in the high teens, the economy slowing down again and a second mortgage implosion coming, folks aren't focusing much energy on it.

Its a shame we couldn't just declare victory and come home.
