From Apalachicola Bay, Oysters Rated the Best - NYTimes.com

Food critics and restaurant owners from Miami and New Orleans say Apalachicola Bay oysters are among the finest in the world, if not the finest.

Chefs of fancy restaurants in Charleston, S.C., where mediocre seafood will be sent back, prize them above oysters from their native coast. Even some Easterners prefer their taste to oysters from the waters of Chesapeake Bay and Long Island Sound.

Edward Ward, who has been eating Apalachicola oysters for most of his 70 years, knows they are good enough for his dog, Sugar Bear.

''I ain't met a dog yet who doesn't love these oysters,'' said Mr. Ward, who places them on saltine crackers with a drop of hot sauce for Sugar Bear. ''Went through a whole 99-cent pound of crackers yesterday.''...

I really think they are - think I've had about 15 kinds and while I like Oregon oysters too, there's nothing like an oyster from Apalachicola!

Even better if you eat them in Apalachicola while looking at the water.

Been to Apalachicola once...went to a little place...what was it...Indian Pass? Anyway, lovely town.

One of my favorite dives is Dusty's in PCB. Wonderful, salty oysters, Scotty shucking them, and a buck beer. Can't beat it.

Agreed, top 2 if not number one! Dusty's and Hunt's depending on which side of the Hathaway Bridge I am on!

Gene's Oyster Bar at Sherman and 3rd in PC is excellent, if you find yourself at the far end of PC.

As to the original question, YES!

I've had oyster from all over the world and flat out I can say that there is nothing better than an Apalachicola oyster. They are unique and the flavor cannot be duplicated.

You missed out on some awesome ones tonight kurt. We still have some, perhaps you and Teresa will get some tomorrow.
