Need some expert help, we will be at Seacrest North next week. When we do boogie boarding would like to go to an area with a life guard. Have never done so in the past, have stayed at Carillon Beach/Pinnalce Port many times without a life guard. But this will be the first time with my 11 year old grandson, and of course my wife was watching shark week on Discovery. Too much TV is a bad thing.

I would be more concerned about rip tides, sand caving in from holes left on the beach (as noted on this board) and of course the highways getting there.

Thanks for any help -

The closest lifeguarded beach to Seacrest is the Inlet Beach Regional Access located east of Seacrest in Inlet Beach at 438 South Orange Street.

Here is a helpful brochure that shows all of the lifeguard locations and some additional beach saftey information.

When we were down there last week, I took the kids down to Inlet Beach to look for shells. More there to pick from then by Seacrest. There were 2 lifeguadrs on duty. We were there for at least 2 1/2 hours to 3 hours. Both of them slept the whole time under their umbrellas the whole time. Never saw them move. Why even have them there if that is what they are going to do all day?

We stayed across the street from the public beach access in Seagrove that has the life guards. They did alot of reading while we were there. I will say there was a positive experience though. The first day we were on the beach, Sunday August 5th, my brother and his kids were about 20 yards out. The water was very clear. I saw a large shadow heading straight for them. It was maybe 100 feet away. I yelled at them but of course thay had no idea what I was trying to say. The next thing I know, one of the life guards sprints out with his rescue board and dives in the water. As this happens, the shadow turns left out to sea. The life guard follows. He goes out a ways and then taps his head signaling to shore. I turn around to see who he is signaling and the other life guard is standing there with a couple of sheriff's deputies.

When he came back to shore, I asked what that was and he said, "Oh it was a little shark." I guess it may have been little, but it didn't look little to me. After that, the 2 lifeguards stayed close to the water for 30 minutes or so.

It is good we have lifeguards to protect our public beaches. Key word is Life "Guard". After doing some research on the net I am sure if you call the SWFD at 850-267-1298 they would be very interested in that information when it occurs. I have found they take public input professionally and are out to do a good job for us.
