30 A area and ramps to the beach ?

Hello, We are interested in renting a condo along the 30 A area. We have been looking into Rosemary beach and seagrove.

Does anyone know of condo units that have a ramp to their beach access ? I have limited mobility and so many steps to the beach would be difficult.

We have stayed at Sanddestin in the past and enjoyed our time. We would like an area where you could walk to places to eat, etc. We liked how quite the resort was but did not like all the activity once you left the Sanddestin.

Thank you for your support, Lori

Hi and :welcome:

Rosemary Beach does have a ramp system on one of their main accesses, the one near the Town Hall I think. I believe there was one being built a couple of years ago in Seagrove near Montgomery Street but I don't think I ever saw the finished product. Perhaps someone else can give you specific information about Seagrove.

Hi Lori - here is a map of public beach accesses with ramps - http://www.protectwaltoncountybeaches.com/BSWAccessMap062007.pdf

There are many condos that are on beach level without stairs and some that aren't on beach level which have ramps. Maybe someone else will chime in with personal knowledge of specific developments and units.

The South Walton Fire District, in partnership with the Walton County Tourist Development Council, has developed a program that provides three beach wheelchairs, strategically located along the Beaches of South Walton, to improve access to the beach. The wheelchairs were purchased by the TDC and the program is administered by the SWFD Beach Safety Division.

The wheelchairs, constructed from stainless steel tubing with large bubble tires that allow the chair to traverse the soft sand, will be located at the following beach accesses, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily from April through September:
  • Pompano Joe's (Miramar Beach)
  • Ed Walline Park (Santa Rosa Beach
  • Bramble Grove (Seagrove Beach)

I think there are at least four beach wheelchairs available from the lifeguards on the beaches in South Walton. Not sure how to reserve. I did see one in use just last week at the Ed Walline Beach access near Miss Lucille's and Gulf Place. There is a ramp to the beach, bathroom facilities nearby and lifeguard with wheelchair information on location. Some of the rental agencies were talking about getting additional beach wheelchairs. I'm sure others will join in here with more and current information. Check out sunspotbaby's link to Walton Outdoors. Pretty thorough.

If you stay in the Eastern Lake area most condos and houses are within a few short steps to the beach. As you move away from a dune lake the terrain rises and thus more steps.

The Bramble Grove entrance is the one I couldn't remember the name of when I was giving you info on tripadvisor.com; really a great beach access and we love Seagrove!
