ok i can't stand it anymore - you may torture me with your beach food recipes

with the price of gas we are parking the boat more and walking the beach and hiking like we used to a years ago when we had legs of steel (and abs!), and we need some cool food to make it superb

must be small, light, backpackable and super easy - no fixing, just open and eat

we will bring the trash back with us to dispose of properly

i'll start with the old stand bys of things that thaw:

you tie these meals up in a bag with no ice (will condense a little bit of water as they thaw, hence the bag, and you can use it for the trash), and once thawed its lunchtime! (perfect for shell island or hiking)!

will also keep a few drinks cold as it thaws, especially if they were pre-chilled

if there's any water in the container when you are ready to eat, just pour it off (condensation)

1) a frozen shrimp ring (prepackaged, like from publix or winn dixie) yummy in the middle of a hard day shelling!

2) a hard-frozen container of pasta with dill, fennel and garlic oil  and two of those tiny bottles of merlot!

you could couple them with some things that don't get frozen, like

3) french onion or jalapeno dip in the pop top (non-refrig) can and a bag of potato chips - grrrrrrr! just the right snack in the late afternoon!

4) donut holes! - the 10'oclock wake you upper (or if you've drank too much!)

your turn!

Our favorite beach foods are things we never eat unless at the beach:

Chips and dips
Pimiento & cheese
Hot dogs
Deviled eggs

I don't recommend putting deviled eggs in your backpack    !

My all time favorite Vienna Sausages! The jalapeno kind. YUMMY.
Sardine's and crackers. Me and my daddy's favorite after a day on the lake fishing. With tabasco sauce.

Have funn AB, and report back with your review when you hit dry land again!

A little tub of crabmeat, a lime, and some crackers, or just a fork.:clap_1: Yum!

Kathy, a real southern fisherperson's food is Vienna sausages (pronounced vie-eena, of course) and potted meat, lots of saltines. We also ate potted meat sandwiches made with Wonder Bread. I think it was actually Little Miss Sunbeam Bread, in those days. Never read the ingredients in these two delicacies! As a child, I would have sardine cravings after swimming in the pool. I mean, these were overwhelming cravings and consistent. What do you think that was all about...channeling my inner dolphin? :dunno:

Barbecue vienna sausages. Yum Yum! You guys are making me hungry. Not for sardines though. Hot dogs and cheese and crackers and the viennas sound delicious though. Another favorite of mine, Underwood Deviled Ham and Roast Beef Spread! Good backpack foods. Donuts can be good backpack goodies.
