We are planning our first trip to the area. We are wanting a gulf front rental and were wondering about Beachcrest, One Seagrove Place, and Walton Dunes. How are these locations? Any advantages/disadvantages to the locations? We have gone to Gulf Shores and know the area very well so it is hard to find a rental when you don't know the area. Any input will help!

I have several friends who own at One Seagrove - a doctor, a retired car dealership owner, etc. They love it, and it's in a great location. Beachcrest is close by - I would guess that it would be a great choice, too, but don't know any owners there. I dunno anything about Walton Dunes. The biggest advantage of SoWal vs Gulf Shores is that SoWal is not four-lane highway, "chain restaurant" land. It is quite unique. Although it does get busy in the summer, one can be comfortable walking in SoWal, as opposed to Gulf Shores which is definitely not pedestrian friendly. We almost bought a home in the Gulf Shores/Perdido Key area, but it didn't begin to compare to SoWal, so we invested in property that happens to be near One Seagrove Place.

BR - Before we came here we stayed in Perdido Key. Loved the beach, but too much stuff as you said. SoWall is more to my liking.

Hi and :welcome:

Beachcrest and One Seagrove and the only two high rises in SoWal and both are about the same and have a pool. They are within walking distance to lots of stuff and good eats.
Walton Dunes is a Townhome set up and is larger but is not close to anything. You will have to drive to eat, etc.
As to the beach area... Not crowded at Walton Dunes Vs Crowded at the two high rises.
Really depends on how much you want to run around or not. I have stayed at both and I like them both for different reasons.

Walton Dunes is right beside Deer Lake State Park, one of the most beautiful areas on 30-A. You would be a very short walk from a private beach there.

We were microseconds from buying the owner of Pat O'Brien's home in Perdido Key. Thank God we didn't - Ivan blew it away. :sosad:
