The small group of women who fanned out in The Frothy Frog Sept. 11, pushed, snapped, popped and swiveled to the sounds of the bohemian-style music.
It was belly-dancing night at The Frog.
Robine Bascom, outfitted in a lime green ?Genie? suit, showed the women how to pop their hips hard ? ?like you?re shutting a car door with your hip,? she said.
In their jingling little skirts, her students complied.
Bascom made all the movements look graceful as well as sensual and erotic.
The instructor has been belly dancing for 30 years, she said, beginning when she was a teen. She and a girlfriend decided to take a class for fun.
Bascom?s students Kelly Davis and Ashley Smith wanted to take the class to have something different to do.
?But it?s great exercise,? explained Bascom. ?It thoroughly exercises every joint in your body.?
Although this is Bascom?s first class to lead, she has kept up with it through the years by dancing at home for herself and for her husband.
?He loves for me to dance for him,? she said.
The 20-week class meets every Monday and Thursday nights at 6 p.m. at Frothy Frog in Emerald Coast Plaza. Cost is $15 for each one-hour class and late joiners are welcome. Skirts and veils are available at The Frothy Frog.
