JB--you sound like the clone of DH. Sunglesses and watches:rotfl:As for Maui Jims, them too, only recently having bought a pair in the caribbean which had the built in bifocal. Thought they were great till a few months of wear (Daily) the nose guards (rubber) started to loosen and come off, and finally losing one and then discarding the other. The up side of this story, is BEFORE he couldn't keep this film off them, thus cleaning constantly. Now without them they don't have the film, go figure.

Maui Jim has excellent customer support. Send them back and they will likely fix them at no charge. We were in Seagrove about four years ago and I left mine in a beach chair. I sat on them and positively destroyed the frame. I sent the broken frame and the lenses back and they fixed them at no charge and even gave me a new case.

On Sunday, walking the beach at Grayton State Park, we found two pair of sunglasses. The first we didn't examine too closely due to the Barnacles encrusted on the lenses. The second pair looked almost identical to my Costa Del Mars, except after very close examination, we discovered that they were cheap imitations, but in good condition. (note that cheap imitations may shade your eyes enough to open your pupils and let in more dangerous UV rays, greatly damaging your eyes. Always go for high quality lenses, which doesn't always equate to designer prices.)

You can find companies which carry close-outs and last year's style, for major brand, polarized sunglasses, for half price or less. Stores like
www.campmor.com (featuring Maui Jim, Costa Del Mar and RayBan)
www.nashbar.com (check out the close-outs)
www.sierratradingpost.com (check out their "Bargain Barn" first for the best discounts with brands like Costa del Mar, Bolle, and Smith.)

They may not have what you are looking for today, at the price you want to pay, but if you keep searching frequently, one day you will find a great deal on the pair you want.

I have a pair of Maui Jims that I love. But I bought a pair made by Magellan(sp?) for half the price of the Maui Jims and I actually prefer them.

Great tip!

My wife just bought a pair of these stupid-looking Versace shades with rinestones all over them. She looks ridiculous.

Thanks JB! a company that will stand behind their product.

I have to have several pairs. One for cycling, one for kayaking/body surfing, one for hanging out on the deck and an extra to keep upstairs in the bedroom for when the sunset is blinding me coming through the window.

My one pair of Costas is really lightweight and flexible. I have been in high surf with them, thrown from a kayak and they have stayed on. Recently we started wearing Kaenon and love them. Great UV protection, polarized, comfortable...and costly.
I always pass by Artful Eye and yell in at them "Pushers!!!" They stood out on that corner, sucked me in and now I'm a junkie!!!!

Speaking of sunglasses, Cap'nCrazy and I were kayaking in Western Lake and there was a rainbow by THE stand of trees. Soooo Cap'nCrazy gets out the camera to take a picture of the rainbow and off we go to Grayton Beach. Before we get there, he notices that his Ray Bans are missing and are not in the kayak. So we retrace our path and we actually find his glasses in Western Lake.

Luckeeeee. Mr OL still talks about a pair of Revo's he lost at White Water in Atlanta.

When I bought Mr OL his Raybans for Father's Day I spotted the perfect sunglasses for me too. They are just like a cheap pair I have and LOVE that just so happened to break last week. How convenient eh? Now I just have to break down and buy them.

I have a pair of Rayban aviators that I've had since the 80's. It's one of the only things that I've kept around long enough that actually did come back in style. Sam kind of took them over. She already left them at the pool one time this summer. I drove back and found them..luckily. I had called to have the staff look and they couldn't find them. They were right where I said they would be.

The pic is the ones I want.
