Greetings all! My family has a beach house rented the last week of May in Seacrest Beach. We've never been to this area before, but have heard so many wonderful things that we had to come to the Beaches of South Walton! What's the best way to get to Seacrest Beach from Mobile, AL? We're from Missouri, but we have to make a stop in Mobile to see some family. So we'll be heading out from there. Actually, this is really a two-part question. What's the fastest way? And then what would be a good scenic way? (My husband wants the fast way, but I'd prefer a really scenic way if it didn't take too much longer!) Any information you could provide would be oh so helpful. Thanks in advance!

:welcome: pobstfarm!!! You did good pickin' South Walton. It's so peaceful, with a hometown feel. I've never come from Mobile but I would think you'd take 10 to 331 or 79 then drive south. For scenic I'd bet you'd take 98 all the way :dunno: I 'm not sure though. Have a Grayt vacation!:D

Personally, I don't know if I would do the scenic route with the traffic. I've done it many times and it takes longer and longer all the time. Maybe you can go driving and sight see during your stay. Take I-10 to 331, Defuniak Springs, Take 331 south to 98. Then google that for directions. Although........ if you aren't in a hurry, take I-10 to Pennsacola, pick up 98 there and take it all the way to 30A, towards Seacrest.

We recently drove to Seacrest from Fairhope. The traffic thru Pensacola
was awful. Not bad thru Ft Walton and then stop and go thru Destin.
I say go I-10 !!!

The prettiest part of US 98, IMO, is the stretch across Okaloosa Island between Ft. Walton Beach and Destin. I-10 to the Crestview/Niceville exit, then take FL 85 and follow the signs to Ft. Walton Beach, which will hook you up with Eglin Pkwy. From there, you connect with US 98 in downtown FWB.

For a bit more of a view of Santa Rosa Island, you can cut down the Garcon Point Bridge (see it is useful for something!) east of Pensacola and hook up with 98 from there.

I'd advise against cutting down sooner than that. Not much scenery if you take I-110, takes forever to go through a nasty part of Pensacola if you go by way of Fairhope or Orange Beach, and the Gulf Breeze cops are jerks.

The one thing you want to really avoid on that part of 98 is getting caught up between Navarre and Ft. Walton Beach between about 6am-10am because you can easily get caught up in a traffic mess by the turnoff to the Hurlburt Field gate.

Amen to that. The Eastbound 98 jamup in the AM there is pretty ugly.

I went Seagrove to Pensacola (westbound) a couple of weeks ago leaving at 6AM. It took 2:15 door to door. You just grind through the Destin and Ft. Walton traffic, and it would be worse once the retail hours kick in. I'd think staying on I-10 to 331 would be more relaxing, even if it's duller.

 I think you guys may have to work through this part prior to selecting a route.

Thanks for the help everyone! We were worried about the traffic around Pensacola and Destin -- thanks for the heads-up! We'll be sure to avoid that part.

NotnKansas, I'm from Southeast Missouri, right south of Cape Girardeau. (Almost in the bootheel, but not quite!)

Again, thanks for all the help. :clap_1:
