I have a friend that swears the deal with Wal-Mart black Friday is don't go for a cart. Head straight to the area for the thing you want. I have never done this type of shopping. I don't have the temperament for it.

I will admit, the Sears deal on the front loading washer and dryer at 50% off is good.

I was talking with a well-connected boutique owner today who was telling me that local mom and pop shops here in Tampa are really suffering.

She pointed out, correctly, that while Wal Mart may have great prices, they have fixed prices. At the smaller shops, everything is negotiable, and the stuff is much more unique and interesting.

I know not everyone's budget accommodates it, but it's great to buy local if you can. Ask for a discount!

The real trick for Wal-Mart is to go in around 4-5 in the morning. This is when the stuff hits the floor. Don't try to unwrap it, they'll attack. Also the Wal-Mart in PCB is very often practically empty as people go to the malls in the area.
