Way to go Brenda!

The Walton County TDC recently changed their logo and tagline after research showed the visitors to the destination did not always know where they were by name or geographically. Some thought they were in Destin. The TDC spends bed tax dollars to market the south Walton destination, one in competition with its neighbors of Destin and Panama City and Panama City Beach.
During the Walton Commissioners meeting public comment time, south Walton resident Brenda Reese asked the commissioners to stop using a Destin address. She said Destin is a city, and we need to demand that advertisers use a Walton address. She cited one business where they had listed Destin, instead of Miramar Beach, the actual location in south Walton, not the city in Okaloosa County. Reese said, if you have one, use it; referring to a Walton County address. She also mentioned Rosemary Beach on the eastern end, saying there is a difference, but they try to use a Walton address where possible. Reese said she was in a restaurant with friends and the waiter came in and said “Welcome to Destin.” They were in south Walton, not Destin. She talked about promoting local. She asked the commissioners to use local firms and spend local.
Being in between larger areas, many times Walton addresses are issued zip codes for neighboring communities, even when the zip code address points to a different city and county. The same problem happens in northern Walton near Paxton. Residents there say they have problems with delivery since some companies deliver to Okaloosa County, but not Walton and when the address has an Okaloosa zip code, but the address is actually in Walton, the delivery has a hard time getting to the destination.
