The sports-themed casual restaurant Buffalo Wild Wings opens February 14th near the Grand Theater in Pier Park.
Buffalo Wild Wings (BW's) will seat 274 inside and a total of 64 on its two patios, for a total of 338 seats. The impressive atmosphere is certainly geared toward sports, though BW's can attract more than just the die-hard sports fan. Kids, families, singles, snow birds, just about anybody can feel comfortable at BW's, and as it offers things such as NTN Buzztime Trivia, Golden Tee Live, the "Blazin' Challenge", great Happy Hour specials from 4pm - 7pm M-F, and hours of 11am - 2am every day, there is great mass appeal.
The big draw is the TV's, though. BW's will offer a complete 1080i HD package, wrapped up in 11 big-screens and 35 LCD flat-screens, complimented by a state-of-the-art sound system. Every sports package from DirecTV will be offered, as well as most pay-per-view events such as boxing and UFC. The decor is also going to be a little more "up-scale" than the traditional sports bar look, though at its roots BW's won't try to be anything other than a fun gatering place for family and friends.
The menu centers around the 14 signature wing sauces, which can be put/added to so much more offered on the menu other than wings. The sauce flavors, in order of least heat (the first three have no heat, actually) to devestatingly hot are: Teriyaki, Sweet BBQ, Parmesan Garlic, Mild, Honey BBQ, Medium, Spicy Garlic, Caribbean Jerk, Asian Zing, Hot, Hot BBQ, Mango Habenaro, Wild, and Blazin'. Other BW's fare includes: Boneless Wings, 1/2 lb. burgers of various assortments, a myriad of salads and wraps, plentiful finger foods, sandwiches such as pulled pork and the Double Jerk Chicken, ribs, shrimp, and an uncanny selection (for a sports bar) of appealing desserts. A full kids menu is also offered.
For the adults, BW's has a full-bar, offering beer, wine, and liquor. The place has a drink menu packed full of its signature cocktails and wine selections, but make no mistake, this is a beer bar. But not just any beer bar... it is one of THE beer bars. With 20 varities of draft beer and about 40 different selections in the bottle, you can go months before trying everything BW's has to offer. And while the usual domestics like Bud Light, Miller Lite, Coors Light etc. are offered on draft (and in the bottle), many of the taps are home to higher-end brews, such as Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan, Sweetwater 420, Sweetwater Blue, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Guinness, Newcastle, Abita Purple Haze, and Brooklyn's IPA (just to name a few). And in the bottled variety you will find such difficult-to-locate but great-to-drink choices such as Dogfish 60-Minute, Lindeman's Lambic Frambois, Hoegarrden, Leinenkugal Berry Weiz, and Anchor Steam (again, just to name a few). And the bar is nice. It's fancy enough to bring a date for a night cap, yet casual enough to bring your friends in for some laughs and a few pitchers.
Tuesdays will be a treat at BW's in that it is 40-cent wing day! Get 10 wings for $4.00. Get 50 for $20.00. Get any quanity you want! You can't beat it wing fans. And Thursday is 60-cent boneless wing day, for those who aren't fans of the bone-in wing. Both of these nights are "events" in Fort Walton Beach, where Buffalo Wild Wings has had a location for 6 years now (I'm a big fan, in case you haven't noticed).
The whole menu is also available for take-out. BW's will have a unique set-up in that it's lobby area is half dedicated to take-out, in that you can come in, grab your order, and go, without having to venture to the bar or find the secret side entrace some other casual dinning places now offer. Also, if for some strange reason you don't want to have a server take your order at the table, BW's will let you order at the take-out counter even if you plan on eating at the restaurant itself. Lots of choices.
And for those of you who loathe the thought of Buffalo Wild Wings being a "corporate chain," keep in mind that the Pier Park BW's will be owned and operated by the same local family that owns and operates the one in Fort Walton Beach. Don't know if you've ever met any of them, but it's a father, mother, son, and daughter operation. Sure, it's a chain, but you can't rag that it isn't "local." In fact, I bet more care and attention will be given to "local" customers than wil be given to the tourist crowd.
So, Feb. 14th is the opening day for Buffalo Wild Wings Pier Park. In fact, this is the day most of Pier South, south of the The Grand, will be opening. Some sort of Grand Opening Celebration is being planned by Simon Property Group, the company building the mall. Anyway, check out BW's that weekend, or shortly thereafter. I hope it's as great as I've come to know it!!!
Cheers
