MANgo and I along with our neighbors are having a neighborhood tag sale to clean out our garages, attics and sheds, so this weekend we were taking stock of what we would set out for the sale. MANgo has this electric acoustic guitar that he bought when he was a kid that he saved and pinched pennies for. So, since it has been sitting in the case for close to 15 years in this house, taking up room, and hasn't been played and it needs to be re-strung, he thought it might put it up for sale. I never paid much attention to it. This morning he says, "maybe I ought to check the value of it since I have no idea what it's worth?" After some research of the exact year, serial # and FON #, turns out its a vintage 1955 Gibson ES-175 in excellent condition, and there is apparently a huge market for these. I found one on E-bay with a starting bid of $4K and it isn't even in as good condition as ours. :yikes:Then we found this article. Apparently we are not the only ones with found treasure.
Gibson: From the Attic to the Auction

So what treasures have you almost gave away or found at a tag sale?

It doesn't necessarily have to be anything worth money to be a "Treasure". I bought this pretty glass salad dressing decanter at a tag sale eons ago. I used it to to take to parties and barbeques figuring if I left it there, no big deal. Cost me .50. Well now all my neigbors bring it back, and it's like finding a treasure again because it reminds me of all the funn parties we have had and will have. Then this weekend, MANgo stopped by my neighbors and BFF whose moving to be with his partner in CA. :sosad: Stacked up in the garage was a pasta machine. He told MANgo to give it to me. He gets it home, and I laughed my butt off because I gave it to him 15 years ago after I was married and had no room for it. Needless to say it's going back out on the tag sale, but it reminded us of all the laughs we got covered in flour when we went through our fresh pasta making stage. Truly a treasure. :rotfl:

No no no! You're not selling that pasta machine. You're giving it to me the next time we're in SoWal together. On "Hell's Kitchen" Chef Ramsey had all the wannabe chefs rolling their pasta and it looked like so much funn.

Oh lordy. Do you know how much room this thing takes up, and how many little parts it has? Besides, I didn't like the taste of fresh pasta. MY BFF did, but I just joined him in getting covered in flour. It gets everywhere. It's like sand papering fresh wallboard. :rotfl:
If you like someone, do not give them a pasta machine. I got mine from my SIL. I guess she thought because I am part Italian that I would be dressed in black everyday and "maka the pasta" for the hubby like a good little wife. NOT! :funn:

Gotta maka the pasta.:lolabove:

So I should reserve a gift like this for my sister-in-law if, God forbid, she should get married again? :D

It's hilarious some of the uber chef appliances people get for presents. :D

Some of the stuff on friends' wedding registries cracks me up - I think a sort of craziness takes place when they let couples lose in Williams Sonoma w/ the scanner gun. Love it when someone who burns water and only "makes" reservations suddenly wants a creme brulee torch.
