Is there any place in Sowal that is recycling Christmas trees? Someone - the county? - did it a few years ago at "the dump" (landfill) off 83. Thanks.

A very talented SoWaller stashed last year's tree in her yard, then this year it was spray painted white and she put it on her front porch. It was beautiful!

She needs to post some pictures!

good question. I am seeing discarded christmas trees lining our street, and guessing the county picks them up. I hope this is the case. surely people would not drag their tree out to the street and leave it there otherwise. we usually donate ours to a local bonfire-loving friend.

Nothing lights up a beach like "dropping" the xmas tree into the fire at midnight!

Make me understand all the fire warnings!

and our tree is always massive, so it gives quite a big fire show and quite dry even with frequent watering. but, make sure its done by an expert! you know - the friend who loves to burn everything, but who also has a big place to do it with all precautions in place, and away from children or other meandering folks.

we saw a friend on the beach last night with 2 medium sized christmas trees standing in the sand next to the jeep and they were cooking on a grill just relaxing. not really sure what was planned for those trees but they looked pretty standing out there.

Trees will be picked up at the curb

deadtree.jpg

This year you can put your Christmas tree at the curb and it will be picked up by either Waste Management (Southside) or Dayco (Northside). The trees will be picked up separately from your regular trash, on the designated yard debris day in your area.
The trees will be taken to the county landfill and processed on their new chipper. The chips will be available free to the public after processing.

For those that do not have garbage pick up, the County is accepting the trees at the Landfill located at 1118 Institution Road, DeFuniak Springs 32433. The landfill is open Mon. – Fri. 6 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Sat. 7 a.m. – 1 pm.
