Just got word today that the University of Memphis Tigers Coach John Calipari has announced he is leaving Memphis and taking over the coaching job at Kentucky. Reports are supposedly he is being paid $35 million for 8 years. That is around 4.5 million a year.
He finally wised up and got out of one of the weakest conferences in college sports. But that means more competition for the SEC teams. Tennessee has already had enough problems with Kentucky this year in basketball, it will probably be worse next year for them with him coaching, as well as many other teams.
He is already a high profile coach having coached UMASS for many years when Marcus Camby was playing. He again will finally be back in a conference that has somewhat more of a reputation. They are hoping he will get Kentucky back to the level they were at when Tubby Smith coached there, as well as coaches preceding him.
