Hey,

Please direct me if I missed this subject What's up with the street signs at the lakes? Someone is going to wreck. This is "Scenic Hwy 30A" and this is all we have to name these coastal rare dune lakes-- street signs???? :dunno:They are an eye sore like the blue signs. They are facing 30A and someone is going to pull right into one of the lakes. Whose idea? Did we pay for these with tax dollars?

I agree ... having name signs at each lake seems like a positive, but these street signs recently put up are a lame attempt at replacing what we had

My first reaction was to look for the turn to Western Lake. Had the blinker on....oops...splash!

To be fair, when you cross most bodies of water, or rivers in this country, there is a marker indicating the name of same. The new ones may be poorly placed, the choice of signage questionable, but they correspond with the maps that we generate, and are a navigational tool. I'm sure one driving factor for their choice was financial. Maybe if they were placed at the same elevation as the guardrails, they wouldn't seem so out of place.

I saw the new signs, had a negative aesthetic reaction, then thought of the expensive giant blue monstrosities and realized they weren't that bad.

Though why if we were putting up signs we couldn't just use the standard 1 or 2 line green signs w/ reflective white borders that you see all over the US is beyond me.

And as for anyone thinking they are real road signs and driving into a lake (through a concrete and metal guardrail I might add) - that's called Darwinism!

No guard rails alongside 30-A into Oyster should someone have a wild hair to drive into the lake.

I don't think the signs are aesthetic at all, but imagine they serve some simple purpose.

And I doubt anyone graciously donated them to the County.

Now I just wish they'd put a sign on that water behind Stinky's because I don't believe it's part of Oyster Lake.

When I saw them my first thought was that someone is going to drive into a lake and then easily win a civil suit against whomever ignored the standard US convention for street markers.

They are tacky, and, well...that about sums it up. I've never had great expectations of anything our county road department ever does.
