Stone's throw from Inlet Bch
On the agenda for this week's (Nov. 12) Walton County Commission meeting is a proposal from Walton County staff to set policy establishing priorities for various types of code enforcement complaints, now that Walton County Code Enforcement has been reduced in size. The proposal can be viewed, along with the meeting agenda, on the county Web site. Residents may be interested in taking a look at what the commissioners will be considering. Action may or may not be taken at the meeting, but it might be good time for any input from the public to be provided. One difference in the policy would be that, as a rule, anonymous complaints would no longer be investigated. The proposal also specifies what type of cases would be dealt with in a proactive versus reactive manner. On a different but somewhat related topic, also on the agenda is a request by a citizen to have the county look at including the area on U.S. 331 north of the bridge but south of Hwy. 20 in the U.S. 98/U.S. 331 S. Scenic Corridor. As I think has already been posted on this site, this week's commission meeting has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. on Nov. 12 at the Walton County Courthouse in DeFuniak Springs.

Really? We have to have a meeting about it?

They can't just figure it out based on number of complaints, severity of infraction, and potential danger to the public?

Hey, c'mon, us meeting goers get lonely sometimes.
But no need to be there, I guess, you could always provide those suggestions by email, or by phone when the Hurricane Ida state of emergency is over.
Bear in mind also that code enforcement is now the enforcer of "Leave No Trace," and that does take part of their time.

I thought WCSO had a proposal on the table?
Someone else may know more, but I did see something on the agenda about a budget amendment to roll $50,000 forward in the sheriff's budget and also an item about setting a Nov. 24 public hearing to adopt prequalification criteria and procedures in connection with the bid process for improvements to the sheriff's administration building, in order to get that process started sooner. FF2, I don't know if either of those were what you were refering to.

I know they have some grant dollars coming to allow modifications of the building to consolidate dispatch to that one location.

That anonymous thing beats all I have ever seen. The BCC has changed their mind on that policy as often as some of them change socks. Sort of funny if you start tracking policy changes to complaints.
