This is what happens when you put a bunch of metronomes running out of synch on a table that's allowed to move freely. They all eventually synchronize. They're all running at the same speed but out of phase. Synchronization all has to do with the fact that they're coupled on the moving platform. This shows why centuries ago special clocks had to be invented for use on ships. Pendulum clocks just wouldn't cut it. They would start to tick at the same rate the boat was rocking. The solution was marine chronometer which paved the way for the modern day wrist watch.
