We were just headed home to SGB and got behind a black Honda Civic (newer model) with a partial Alabama tag VPN ???. The car also had a University of Georgia sticker across the top of the back window, a South Carolina Palm and a Moon sticker.

The car was loaded with girls and no less than three cigarette butts came out of the car. They headed on east towards Aly's. Make sure you tell them we don't appreciate them trashing the place while they visit for me.

It is just ridiculous, I hate butt flickers...:pissed:

and yes, I'm crabby, we took 5 kids goofy golfing and to the beach today...

It really puzzles me how people can love the area and yet trash it - love the country and yet not think twice about littering it.

You deserve a big "put your feet up" evening after all you've been through today!! 5 kids! WOW!

You might not be old enough to remember this commercial - perhaps they need to bring it back. Maybe it isn't PC - but I remember it as one of the first anti-litter campaigns out there.

Maybe we should post photos and license plate numbers on the forum! :yikes:

Well, I have both a pic and the tag number but I didn't post them. It is just bothersome that people don't care about anything. I rode down to the post office a little while ago and someone threw a big cup out at the corner of 395/30A. I picked it up and went on but it just bugs the crap outta me.

I just need to relax I guess. I don't want to be known as someone who is negative all of the time.

Here's a tidbit on Iron Eyes...

Is spitting out gum on the highway considered littering?:dunno:

How about throwing out a banana peel?:dunno:

Well, I wouldn't want a peel thrown in my yard and stepping on gum in the summer time is a real drag...

That reminds me, when I was in college, people who always hung around and didn't know when to go home or invited themselves to events, like lunch or on dates, were called "gum on my shoe". :rotfl:

At least the 'naner peel and the gum will decompose. Stupid butts will last forever.

Opinions please: I threw an apple core out the window last week, into the grass next to 98. I thought it was a good thing, because some little beasties would be sure to make a meal of it. I can understand not wanting decomposable stuff thrown in your yard, but is it really wrong to toss it next to a highway, or am I just being ignorant? Is there something that I'm not seeing? I mean this sincerely... I'm not talking trash - paper, plastic, metal, glass, butts, etc. I'm talking things like apple cores, grape stems, and banana peels only... What do you think?

There are creatures out there that will strip anything edible down to nothing. I wouldn't worry about any food item WCW.

But...cigarettes butts and non-biodegradibles being deposited on our roadways are a crime against ALL of us. Why can't people learn this? Baffling!

I would not worry about throwing an apple core - biodegradable is fine and I do that when I am on a hwy stretch. I just try and do it when others can't see me or they might think it is real litter. You're fine with that in my opinion

Cig butts, with filters, are something people need to keep in their ashtrays. Those butts never degrade = I think that is part of the big debate over smoking on beaches - but that is a another thread isn't it? ;-)

I agree with the bio stuff on uninhabited stretches...

You shouldn't throw ANYTHING out your car window. Even bio-degradable stuff. If you want to gift Ma Nature w/ your compost offerings, please do so when the car is stopped.

An apple core is biodegradable, but that doesn't mean I want it bouncing off my windshield. Also, throwing food on the side of the road draws animals and increases their chances of becoming roadkill. And an orange peel may be organic, but takes years to break down - years of other people looking at your trash by the roadside.
