I haven't forgotten.
And yes, the memorial there is indeed a special place; it's location and architecture lend it an especially emotional resonance.
Years ago my uncle told me about how it was for him on Dec 7 1941.
He was just an 11 year old kid. But he could understand how terrifying (and not a little frustrating) it must have been for those guys, those ships sinking, and seeing all those planes destroyed--on the ground.
He asked his grandpa about how this could have happened.
"Well," his Pappy said, "we pretty much got caught with our pants down."
And that's sort of how it was, I suppose.
We definitely stepped up to the plate afterward, though.
