Deer Lake State Park Reopened After Improvements

Effective Aug. 11, 2021: Deer Lake State Park is closed for improvements to park amenities, including the addition of a paved park access road, parking, picnic shelters, restroom facilities and connections to utilities.

The park will remain closed 12 months.

Be sure to visit a nearby state park such as Grayton Beach, Camp Helen, Topsail Hill Preserve or Henderson Beach during this closure. Grayton Beach State Park is only a 6.8-mile drive west on Highway 30A, while Camp Helen State Park is an 8.8-mile drive east.

I would love a trail from parking to the lake and out to the Gulf. It would make a great loop. But I also like it is undisturbed.

Could we restore it to the good old days? You know naked people frolicking in the dunes?

Deer Lake renovation is nearing completion. Doors need to be installed on restrooms, signs and pay station are on site and need to be installed, and some additional sod and landscaping added. It looks like it could be completed any day if they have materials.

Surprised to hear from a volunteer today that the reopening will be late August.
