Congratulations to Linda Christiansen on 5 years with Destin Magazine. However, the magazine needs to be changed and add SOWAL!

On the magazine's cover it list the Top 5 Things to do in Destin, Destin: five years from now, and people in Destin you should know.

Do you know what the first person said??!!

Drum roll ... Mary Jane Kirby's top five:

1. Bud & Alley has a fabulous view of our beaches and the best place to watch the sunset upstars at the Roof Deck Bar ....

2. Riding your bike all along 30-A is the best way to experience ....

3. Brunch at Fire is a must ....

4. Picolo's Restaurant .....

5. The concert series at Seaside .....

ALL FIVE ARE IN SOUTH WALTON!! YEAH!!!

Just take a few minutes to read all the others that follow and you will find places in SOUTH WALTON named a LOT.

Likewise read about the leaders and you will find the same thing ... Mike Chouri, General Manager of The Sandstin Hilton .. enough said ... Sandestin!

Karen McCarthy while Chair of the Board of Destin Chamber, professionally is AVP of Walton County Operations of the Army Aviation Center Credit Union with offices in Miramar Beach/Sandestin area.

Further, when the people to know are listed, a good number of them are in South Walton, too!

So it was pleasurable reading the magazine and realizing even in our neighboring city to the west, they love and appreciate the beauty and places to relax and enjoy it in SOWAL. :D

I live in Sowal but Destin is where I was born & raised. There is just as many nice things to see & do in Destin as there is in Sowal. Can you snorkel the Jetties in Sowal? How about relaxing on a boat at the amazing Crab Island. Can stroll down the Destin Docks taking in the sights and sounds of the amazing fishing industry that put this entire place on the map? Do you realize that when you eat a piece of fish in a south walton restauarant that is came from the docks in Destin? I do not like the way my beloved hometown turned out with overdevelopment and poor city planning but It's still where my Family Lives and there are plenty of things to do if you just take a look.

Sowal
The point is that Destin keeps trying to claim Sowal's greatness for its own - when it isn't even in the same county!

I think of it this way-

I grew up in Chicago. It is a great city. But sometimes it is nice to get out of the busier parts of it and enjoy the surrounding area. You might go to Six Flags in Gurnee. You might even make the 20 minute drive into Indiana to enjoy their dunes. These places might be in completely different cities, counties and even a different state- but it would be no surprise to find these things in a family friendly article about what to do in the Chicago area. Why? Because Chicago is (moreso) "on the map"...

:dunno:

I agree. Actually one of my pet peeves is hearing tourists refer to sowal as 'Destin'. Bugs the hell out of me! lol

I grew up in Sowal (Dune Allen area) and went to school in Ft Walton Beach. Most of my friends were from Destin and they loved coming to Sowal to play. Eventually, most of them moved from to Destin to here.

Destin has it's virtues, but if I had a choice of which town to live in, hands down, SOWAL!!!
