I will be renting my home this year and i really don't want to provide a grill as its a pain in the but as if its propane they'll leave the gas on and i'll have to constantly provide new gas and if charcoal they could leave it and burn the house down. what do you think of the idea of not providing one?thanks

Your house do what you want. I have stayed in a place where they provided a mounted charcoal grill located a reasonable distance from the house and no vegatation located around it. Saying that, I would prefer a gas grill for no other reason than I can cook on them and they are adjustable, unlike charcoal grills that come in so many different styles.

I work for WaterColor Resort and we have a few owners that provide gas grills. The deal is that if the guests want gas, then they can go buy a tank from somewhere locally. And some luck out and the previous guests have not used all of theirs so they get the leftovers. Seems like the way to go to me...

we have both gas and charcoal at our rentals with different success rates with each. the homeowners provide gas and we check them with each turn of the house. so i carry a few extra's during the summer! the larger problem is keeping them clean!

A grill is a nice option, but the salt air here seems to corrode the gas
fixtures quickly, increasing the chance of gas leakage.
The rust will eat it up quick if it's not stainless steel.
We seem to use it more than the guests! I love to grill!
Clean up is an issue, especially with charcol, but good maintenance is
the key. Also, location, location, location...we have a few burn marks
on the deck. Best wishes and Happy New Year!
Good luck with the rental. Last year was very good to us!

Michigan but someday in SoWal as well
I provide a charcoal grill for each cottage because I worry that someone will leave the gas on and that guests will complain that the grill is out of gas. I put a bit away from the cottage and on cement pavers. The grills get rusty within a few years, so I replace them every 2 years or so. They are relatively inexpensive ones from Publix (about $40 each). The renters have to clean them out themselves (though I clean them out about 3 times each year when I'm there). So far, I've had no complaints.

IMO, no need to provide a grill. If a potential renter wants a grill, there are many places who offer and you will still have renters. My place has $2,000 worth of grills and I do not provide the tanks.

I see where renters either expect the moon or abuse your home.

I actually had a snowbirder once negotiate rent with me and wanted me to provide amenities such as bikes, etc.......paying a dirt cheap rent (because the place in PCB was cheaper) and including utilities. I would have gone in the hole approx. $100/mo. This ain't PCB and I would rather my place sit empty.

When we rented beach homes at St. Geo. Is., we never had an issue buying a small charcoal grill for our few days or two week stay in a rental. And, we would check with the owner to see if someone was coming in behind us and leave it for them.

Good luck!!!

The scary thing is that if you don't supply a grill, renters will buy a charcoal grill at Publix for $9.99 and put it under a covered porch, threatening a house fire. I've seen high-end, stainless-steel, gas grills provided for renters only to have them leave them in a gross mess on checkout. Our solution was provided by our previous rental management company. They mount a ghetto-looking charcoal grill that can't be moved. Okay with hubby because he hates grilling out due to the heat, So we always use grill pans and George Foremans inside,

We'd never install a high-quality gas grll for renters beacaue they wouldn't care for it properly. Just like they don't follow the instructions for heating the pool, so we don't offer a heated pool anymore. Every time they mess with the valves and don't follow the clearly written instructions, it blows out the pool heater and costs us $1000.
