Dune I - report as of March 9 2006

Recently someone asked about the condition of Dune I, located in Dune Allen, but I could not find the thread when running a search.

Finally today, I had a chance to stop by and check. The building on the east appears to have rebuilt porches and a new walk over (down) to the beach. The west building appears normal. The Gulf front swimming pool probably saved the building from exteme erosion. The pool which was severely damaged has been removed, and a construction permit box is posted with plans for a pool to be rebuilt. Thus far, only pilings have been driven, probably for a deck beside the pool.

Both buildings appear to be ready to rent, sans pool. I took photos and I will post them at a later time.

Thank you SJ for the report, and dbuck for the notification. You are both so thoughtful. I am surprised that the pool is not farther along. My family has four units reserved at Dune 1 for the end of July. I am glad to see there is at least a permit posted.

How is the beach renourishment going? It is my understanding the sand pumping will stop just before this stretch of 30A.

They started again this week. The equipment had a broken part, and they received two replacement parts, each damaged, before taking the dredge boat to LA for repairs. So, they were out of commission for about a week. The beach is in good shape at Dune I.
