I am still in shock from this one!

Friend was telling me how she was looking forward to sleeping in the next day because her kid had a field trip...................to Fudpucker's! Apparently taking kids out of school and to a place that serves jello shots meets Florida education standards..............because it has alligators to make it educational!

Another example of a recent sanctioned "educational" field trip - Build-a-Bear in Destin Commons! Yes, a mall store is educational because you can learn about anatomy while stuffing a bear!

Can someone explain to me what I'm missing here? She had absolutely no problem with either of these field trips and thought I was crazy!

Field trips are great, as are creative lessons that capture kid's attention, but field trips to a bar/restaurant and the mall when there is a Gulfarium, zoo, museums, etc easily accessible for a field trip is ridiculous!

These sound like girl or boy scout trips maybe but not school field trips. My kids haven't had any yet this year but last year we went to the Ohio Supreme Court, Science Museum and Ohio History Museum.

Glad it's not just me!

I've been trying to remember my school field trips and they were all unquestionably educational - a museum, historical site, zoo, government building, park, or something affiliated with the university.

Build-a-bear to learn anatomy...............we had med students w/ real organs in kindergarten (they always brought pink and grey lungs to make us anti-smoking) and high school field trips to see cadavers!
