Who: The Venerable Thich Thanh Dieu Giac, Abbott of the Quan Am Nam Hai Monastery in Panama City

Topic: It’s a Miracle to Walk on this Earth

When: February 16, 2023 at 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Where: Christ the King Episcopal Church in Santa Rosa Beach

The last time you walked alone—in the city, your neighborhood, a nature trail or on the beach—Where was your mind at? Did you check your cell phone or listen to music or a podcast? Or maybe you were just lost in thought. Walking meditation is designed to bring body, mind and spirit in sync. It is a great alternative if you don’t like to sit while meditating. A simple but profound practice to train the mind in awareness.

The Emerald Coast Meditation Society is honored to host the Venerable Thich Thanh Dieu Giac, abbott of the Quan Am Nam Hai Monastery in Panama City, Her topic will be, “It’s a Miracle to Walk on this Earth”. Master Tran as she is known by her students and followers will teach and guide us in a silent outdoor sunset walking meditation. The meeting will take place on Thursday, February 16th at Christ the King Episcopal Church at 4:30 - 6:00 pm. The church is located at 480 N County Hwy 393, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32549, one half mile north of Hwy 98.

Master Tran received full ordination as a Buddhist monk in 2003 at the King Son Monastery in California. She studied with the late Thich Nhat Hanh in the Mahayana and Engaged Buddhism traditions in 1996. Since then, Master Tran has been guiding spiritual retreats for multiple Buddhist and Lay groups as well as for private business firms as well as colleges and students in all grades from 2003 to the present.

The Emerald Coast Meditation Society is nonsectarian group of meditators at all levels. Our meetings are free and open to the public. Our format includes a 30 minute silent sitting meditation followed by a guest speaker’s talk and group sharing. We conclude with a five minute silent meditation. If you are new and would like basic instruction in meditation, please arrive early at the church by 6:15 pm.

I'm interested - do people bring cushions to sit on?
I bring my cushion and some others do as well, but most people sit in chairs for the meditation. We will walk the beautiful grounds of Christ the King church for the walking meditation provided the weather cooperates. Otherwise, we will do a walking meditation in the parish hall.
