I agree with Mango ... the 60th anniversary of an oppressive regime that has forced how many millions of parents to give up or abort their children is not something you want to mark with festive lights.

I guess the owners of the building have every right to do it (most certainly for an undisclosed sum), but it is tacky, tacky, tacky.

I wonder what else the Empire State Bldg. will celebrate for the globe.

xenophobic? Now I am insulted-- if that was the implication. (Not really, I could give a rat's butt what anyone thinks of my opinions) I guess I am a little tired of the liberal hippy, c'est la vie attitude about everything. Yes, it is lower on the priority list of worldly concerns, but nonetheless, still a statement being made which was newsworthy. Was Tiananmen Square lit up with red, white and blue when Obama was elected?

This seems like an appropriate time to apologize for those huckster remarks I made about New Yorkers.

I seriously doubt over the next 50 years that China will be the only one.

It's pathetic, isn't it? Principal and pride take a back seat to the almighty dollar. I hate that we are so greatly in debt to China that such a thing as this seems necessary.
