I am still looking for an administrative opportunity or something similar. If ANYONE has ANY information that could help me, it would be GREATLY appreciated!

I have had a few leads that turned out to be nothing and even went on an interview-got an offer, then called to accept the position and the person hasn't called back...I don't think that people fully understand the frustration of trying to find employment in this area and then for no one to even return a phone call-AGH! I have looked online, the newspaper, networked with people I know and dropped off resumes at NUMEROUS places and still no bites. I am an educated, qualified perfect candidate!!! I am so confused right now.:dunno:

Thanks!

Resume forwarded upon request!

I understand your frustration. But it's not limited to that area -- it's happening all across the country. Companies are in uncertain economic times and not many of them are in hiring mode. I know it's frustrating when they don't return your call. . . . .but keep in mind that they are getting several of those calls. And are most likely hard at work trying to keep their current employees employed!

Wish I could offer you more than sympathy on that one. The area really is horrible for white collar employment if you aren't into commissioned sales.

Have you tried at Sacred Heart? Health industry seems more stable than a lot of fields, and if you've got good organizational skills, they always seem to need someone to try to control the flow of paperwork.

How long have you been looking/interviewing for a job? Job searches can take months rather than weeks. Are you new to the area? Do have a network in place? Are you willing/able to move out of the area?

Even in the best of times, finding a suitable administrator job in this area is challenging at best. Now that the state and national economies are in a recession and since the RE boom went bust, there's lots more competition (former Realtors, mortgage brokers, etc) on the street in search of white collar jobs with fewer opportunities.

If you are in need of money and unwilling to relocate, you might want to latch on to a local service job over the summer and build up networking opportunities with local employers.

Good luck.

Shel.

<Just went back and saw that you just moved here from Destin. Were you employed in Destin?>

The Emerald Coast is in desparate need of a placement / headhunting service targeting white collar employment, as I found out when I moved to the area several years ago.

Candihagler, I am involved with a company that may be looking for personnel of varying skills and backgrounds once we get past startup. Srictly white collar. I would be happy to review your resume. Destinbarkeep@gmail.com

I find it to be true that most white collar employment is away from the beachside areas. Unless one wants to relocate away from the beach, they're in for a long, tedius and costly daily commute.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and advice.

I was employed in Destin and have had the opportunity to work for Andrea Farrell, Jeanie Zepponi and Lance Greenwald. All very reputable people/RE Agents in the area. But of course they are all in the RE market and have a hard time keeping stable and steady work for administrative assistants.

I have definitely considered the Health Industry and have applied for SEVERAL jobs, but of course am waiting to hear back!! I am willing to commute and even take a slight pay cut just to have income coming in!

I also have a small service business-EYE.SPY Consulting & Staging...www.eyespydestin.com, but of course it would just happen to be a RE service! I do offer great organizing with the business, but have had a hard time finding clients-I am sure b/c of the economy!

I am very hopeful that something will come up, or I will have to consider relocating. I just hate to have to restart my life at this point when I have worked SO hard to accomplish what I have so far-education, experience, etc.

Just because I have worked predominantly in the RE market for the past several years, all of my skills and experience could definitely be used in another industry.

Please keep me in mind if anything comes up...Thank you very much!

I Am Finally Employed...

AT MAN IT FEELS GOOD. Just wanted to thank everyone who took the time to offer advice, give suggestions and thanks to those who just cared! I was very persistent in my job search and it paid off. I was able to pick from 3 opportunities and I chose the one I was the most interested in! I am so excited about my future and will probably plan on retiring with this company-I know, I know, but hey, I never want to have to go through a 2 month job hunt again~Thanks so much...
