We live about 10.5 hours away by car (Louisville). Just for the heck of it, I thought I'd check the 'new' airport for a flight, for a long weekend, when school is out. (My husband teaches.)
Not a holiday weekend. Not only would it cost close to $700 a person, but with one stop, would take 7 hours and 25 min. I guess I need to look through the calendar and find another date or another airline or wait until we retire and drive down:) So, I won't be surprising my husband with that long weekend. (We also have an away football game, so it would have worked out nicely.) Ellen

I find that most trips of ten hours or less take as long to fly, especially when you add in airport travel time, getting there early for security, waiting for bags to arrive, and connections.

Southwest has a nonstop from Nashville TN to Panama City (ECP). If you book far enough in advance you could get flights as low as $200 per person depending on your dates etc. We use this some for our kids to fly back and forth. (Nashville is a 2 1/2 hour drive.) May not help with time but would be cheaper.

Thanks for the info. Forgot to look at other cities. Nashville sounds like a good option.

We fly SW from Cleveland to ECP and it's usually about 5 - 6 hours, with either a connection in Nashville or Baltimore. Now that I'm retired, I've driven the route and it takes 16 hours that I break up in 2 days. Driving is definitely cheaper but quite tiring.

We take an extra day and leave on Friday morning. And instead of staying somewhere like Montgomery, or along 65, or Florala, etc., we drive to Pensacola - shorter route from 65 and drive to the beach. So we have our first look at the gulf, then slowly drive east, stopping along the way to Navarre. We hang out at the Pier Bar for food and drink and local flavor, then head across the bridge for a 1 night stay on the bay. The next morning, Saturday, our check-in day, we take our time again, exploring the route east, staying along the coast as much as possible. When we get to Sowal, we always pass up 30A to stop at the Visitor's Center - if traffic allows, then head back to 30A and work our way, first to the Red Bar for a Bloody Mary. Because we have been arriving when folks are exiting on 331, we now head on to Vue and have a lovely, relaxing lunch by the gulf, then back to the Visitor's Center - all that lovely Sowal reading material - then on to the Red Bar and eventually Seaside for our 4:00 pm check-in.
This past winter, we were in the Sugar Bowl, so we came over for two nights at Hibiscus, after Nowal and that was lovely. Another good reason to hope that we return to the Sugar Bowl - so we can take an unplanned trip to Sowal.
