Great food. Tried the grouper basket. Fish was fried to perfection. Nice mustard batter. Fries were good too. Very pleasant atmosphere. Convenient parking. I'll definitely return for a burger.

Fries are everything!!!
We go to Flip Flops at least once a week for a burger and fry fix. Well, today while lunching with a bunch of SoWal Wenches I got a HUGE french fry scare. It was terrible I tell you! Horrifying!
My burger basket was served and I noticed something was a little different. After eating a few fries, I realized that there was.... that... that horrible coating of whatever it is on french fries everywhere now! I could not believe that my local burger joint had succumbed to this horrible french fry that most restaurants serve now (I have been told by more than one chef that these new coated fries stay crispy longer - of course they do - but do not call them french fries!) I know some people have come to really like and prefer them. But for french fry lovers - this coated fry with no flavor whatsoever is completely unacceptable!!!
There are local restaurants that we rarely go to because of the one little fry. There are a handful we really like but rarely visit. All because of the fry.
Well, then John R came along later and when his basket came we noticed he had the normal yummy normal delicious fries! come to find out, Shea had run out of the good ones and was serving another kind until the real ones arrived. So, I'm not happy with my french fries at lunch today, but I am so relieved that it was only a temporary thing that I don't care!
carry on Flip Flops. We love you to pieces. Do not scare me like that ever again!

I can't pass up a really good Pomme Frite. Does Flip Flops use salt or seasoning salt on their fries?
just a bit of salt on a plain fry. the art of the pomme frite is almost forgotten in the USA. I feel we need to start a letter writing campaign on this issue!
the starchy batter coated french fry isn't really a french fry, imo. They taste like a fake potato product - with a fake crispiness - with little flavor. Restaurants like serving them because they stay crispy for a long time after cooked.... Americans are acquiring a taste for them, so we are seeing them in most restaurants these days. Another food goes down the tubes fast due to the food industry taking a good product and making it "gooder" by making it processed.

I like the fries either way but have to give the nod to uncoated.
