Earlier today just after sunset I was walking the dog on the beach.
We had the pleasure of seeing a fox walking on the dunes parallel to the water right in front of all the gulf front homes. This was at the Spooky Lane beach access in SRB.

The fox stopped at the top of the dune directly behind us (it was maybe 15 yards away) and stared at us for a solid 20 seconds. My dog started barking and it took off. After it was about 50 yards away it ran down the dune toward the water and was heading west on the beach just a few feet from the gulf.

Just thought I'd share.

Cool - I saw one from the beach at Deer Lake State Park many years ago. I'll bet foxes, coons, bobcats and many other critters used to spend a lot of time foraging on the beaches.

Last week I was on the beach at Seaside and one of the local cats strolled out on the beach a hundred yards from me. He sat and watched the surf for awhile then mosied on back. I thought he was a pretty cool, and lucky, cat. Maybe he was dreaming of all the fish out there.

Hey Kurt

The black kitty at Seaside is Blackjack - I always give him water and everyone feeds him there. He loves to sleep on the terrace at the pizza bar on the soft cushions. He is my favorite Seaside kitty. I love wildlife. I'm watching Enchanted with my kids.

Or maybe he was thinking...."Do I have the biggest sandbox in all of kittydom or what!!"

Geo...you were indeed fortunate to see the fox. My parents used to have one that would come up to our porch and have something to eat every few days, but that was over 10 years ago. We have missed "our" fox for many years and always hoped he was happy somewhere. Perhaps this was part of his offspring. Nice to think. Thanks for posting.

We saw two different ones in August--not on the beach, but I loved seeing them.

I saw a red fox (his coat was so vibrant in color) around dusk two nights ago he was on South Bishop and Bullard my headlights scared him and he stood in front of the car blankely I was in awe then about 30 seconds later he took off and so did I.

I can't help but wonder how they might react to us if we were out walking? Was second time I have seen a fox first time was two big ones and one smaller that was in October on 98 and I thought that was cool. This was like National Geo live..in SRB ;)
