My neighborhood held a progressive party. Instead of food, cocktails and snacks were served at each host's house. It was a walking party, so no need for cabs. :D Good time for all. Has anyone done anythinkg similar?

Sounds like a grayt idea, but what did you do, take turns walking to each other's houses so the host and hostesses were present? We have had block parties in the summer.

My boyfriend's neighborhood does this every year. It is always a good time. Everyone always goes overboard on the food though so by the last house or two, everyone is too stuffed to eat!

Mango, here's a general idea of how to do a progressive dinner party:
http://okok.essortment.com/partyorganizing_rwbb.htm

I've gone to many a progressive when we lived in Georgia. We'd have appetizers in the first house, dinner in the next house, and wind up for dessert and cocktails at the third. Everyone pitched in and if you were a host that evening, you weren't responsible for food, only setting the table for guests. It took a lot of organizing, mostly in allocating what part of the meal a person made. You always wanted to give people something to make that they were really good at. No one ever gave me the dessert menu because I'm a lousy baker, but I often made something in the main menu. The most sociable people were usually responsible for the cocktails that winded the dinner down. It's great funn. :clap_1:

We start at one end of the street. The first host has everything ready. A few minutes before before leaving the host of the next house leaves to get ready...maybe 5 minutes. The group walks to that house and it continues to the end of the street. I hope I explained it. We also sent invitations with regrets to each participants house to know how many plan on feeding.

It was really cold this weekend so it made walking not as much funn, but we continued. Ours is pretty much a drinking party with snacks, but you can do food or a dinner party as well. The best idea is to keep it simple as it is about the company and laughter. It was a grayt way to get to know some new nieghbors. When we moved into the neighborhood, we were the youngest on the block. After living here for 20 years, we no longer have that distinction....still had a good time.

It's a smart idea. We have a tight knit neighborhood and used to have more parties years ago since we are all the same age. But it does get terribly expensive when one person is hosting the food even though everyone brought soemthing, not to mention cumbersome with cleaning and dishes etc. This is smart since you only have to contend with one item. :clap_1:
