To all who deny there is/was/will be a growing gang problem in the Panhandle, please review the local news for a report on a gang related shooting in Bay County. A 19 year old was taken into custody for the killing. Local Law Enforcment has stated the crime was both Gang and Drug Related. You can find the gangs name and related story, I'm not going to go into details on this site.

This is not meant to be an "I told you so" message. Just something to think about as we look to put a new Sheriff in office this year. I think the various candidates have made their own opinions (right or wrong) known over the past few months as to where they stand.

Let's address the growing problem and head it off before it affects us here in Walton.

Bay County sheriff's investigators arrested 19-year-old James David Thompson Tuesday morning at a Panama City Beach home.
Thompson is accused of killing Steven Weed around noon Sunday at Weed's home on Coe Road. Thompson allegedly shot Weed in the face.
Tuesday sheriff's officials say the motive was drug and gang related. They say Thompson is a member of the Crazy White Boys gang.
Authorities say they also arrested a number of other suspects on drug related charges in-connection with this investigation.
Some of Steven Weed's family members attended today's news conference. His brother, Clarence Weed, says he's very thankful to the all of the investigators who helped make the arrests.
"No human being, no matter what they've done in their life, deserves what happened to him in his own home. I went through his house Sunday after it happened, after the police were done, and his dinner was still cooking on the stove," Clarence Weed, the victim's brother, said.
"This investigation has taken a lot of drug dealers off the street, gang members off the streets. This investigation is not over. We are continuing to work. There will be more arrests to come," said Capt. Jimmy Stanford of the Bay County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities say they also recovered the murder weapon Tuesday.

Since the local officials seem to be aware of and dealing with the issue I am not running for the panic button just yet.

Crazy White Boys- now there is a serious gang name for ya. I bet they have an effective organizational structure and network like real gangs.

Actually, I bet they are a bunch of wanna-be gangbangers wearing sagging jeans, with stupid haircuts, drug addictions, and the need for money to buy a little bling for their oh so attractive girlfriends- and trying to get some cred by adopting a name. They need a publicist- who chose that dumb name??

I bet they would be laughed right out of town in a larger metro area, after getting their butts kicked.

Crazy White Boys is the brother/sister organization to Trailer Park Girls. I don't think we are under any threat, they have been in WC since as long as I can remember.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

No hard feelings....just making a funny.

repeat of previous post

I posted this not too long ago and thought it was appropriate to re-post it in light of the recent incident in Bay County.
This is no matter to be giggling about folks. Its not funny. Im sure there were also others making light of gangs over in Bay years ago when the signs were starting to surface. We need to get started now.

Ever see any graffitti or "TAG" in the city or the county? Graffitti is the newspaper of the gangs. Each tag has a meaning. It can be an advertisement for who controls the neighborhood. It can be the name of the go to guy for dope. it can mean many things. Dont think "tagging" is just a frustrated juvenile with artisitc talents.

As for the "wanna be". Generally these can be more dangerous when confronted by police. A well trained and informed officer knows the gangs and their forms of communication when in a group in his/her area. By doing so he/she knows the limits and capability and the lengths they will go to to prove their allegiance.
A "wanna be" is out to make a name for him/her self and wants it known they are looking for recognition and acceptance into a gang. Therefore they are very dangerous and will do almost anything to get that accomplished. They have no gang rules and they are unpredictable.
Gangs flourish in affluent and poor neighborhoods alike.
To think there are no gangs here is dangerous and foolhardy. Once a foothold in made its very hard to rid them from an area. Beware, be informed. Ask questions and demand answers.
