When Palin’s memoir, “Going Rogue: An American Life,” hits bookstores on Nov. 17, it will face competition from OR Books’ “Going Rouge: An American Nightmare,” being released the same day.
The anti-Palin book, compiled by Richard Kim and Betsy Reed, senior editors at the left-leaning The Nation magazine, claims to offer up “the real Palin.”

Though the cover of “Going Rouge” is clearly a parody of Palin’s memoir, the book is not, the editors say, pointing to the caliber of writers included in it. Among the book’s contributors are Hanna Rosin, contributing editor at The Atlantic; historian Rick Perlstein; iconic feminist Gloria Steinem and former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich.

?€˜Going Rouge?€™ offers roguish reply to Palin book - TODAY: Book news

“Anyone who looks at the cover for more than half a second can tell that it’s not the same book,” she said. “But maybe we have too high of an opinion of Palin book buyers.”

Look at how the military is structured, and there are some stongly socialist elements to it- how health care is delivered, the entire commissary system, how housing allowances are calculated based on rank and family size... It's blatantly there.

If someone chooses to hear socialism as some sort of slam, it's their issue. Me, when I hear first world socialism, I tend to think of places like Sweden and Denmark, which tend to rank very, very highly in world studies on quality of life. I'd far rather live in Stockholm than a lot of allegedly more capitalist countries out there.

Well said and well put...

It is amazing how distorted the term has become in America!

Within the military, the structure may not be democratic, but that's not the issue. The issue is whether the military is a socialistic element of American society simply because it's public sector and relies on taxpayer money. Most people think protection of citizens is a proper function of government even in the most free-market capitalist societies, so I would say no it's not socialism.

I agree LS. It sounds more like Capitalism....not everyone in the military has the same pay or rank and that is based upon merit, drive and education and survival of the fittest.

On the other hand, Palin literally dragged teenagers Bristol and Levi onto a national stage solely for her own best interests, with zero regard for how it would impact their lives for years to come. That was the first POS move in my opinion.

I don't care how politically talented she was, Lynnie is right -- Palin had plenty of years ahead of her. She could have been highly effective in the next election cycle if she had just waited and decided NOT to toss her daughter under the bus. But she didn't. And that told me EVERYTHING I needed to know about her. She either doesn't have an ounce of empathy, or has no good sense. Or both.

That said, Levi's 15 minutes were up awhile ago. Bristol's tell-all will be the interesting one. But it is years away. I feel so bad for her, still. :(

I am still appauled that she dragged the baby across the stage and had Bristol take care of it. Maybe she was just getting Bristol some experience in the baby category. She used her own kids and it backfired.

I also fell so bad for the kids.

The Republican party did not do thier homework.

I agree, well said. And experiencing the Good Old Military Life and retiring from the military I love those socialist elements. And I am still enjoying them. Excellent health care and the commissary is outstanding. Now my lack of housing allowances isn't the best. And no raise this year cause there is no inflation doesn't taste so good.

The military can be totally self sufficient if needed. They have commissaries, exchanges, health care, dental care, housing, gas stations, leisure activities and just about anything needed in life....If one wants to associate with that many military. I don't.

not sure how this conservation made such a turn to this topic, but oh well. not the first time...

my impression is that the people who make such statements about socialism have absolutely no idea what socialism really means.

I think America is seeking what is right and what will work for our country best. We are not Canada or Europe. Its time to look into the future and make hard decisions about the direction of our country. Does that mean socialism? of course not .
I think it means finding the absolute best solutions for our capitalist country/culture to ensure a strong future - while continuing to improve public and private programs that will ensure that all citizens have a chance at a lifetime of education, opportunity and health care.

This is the land of the free and the brave and the rebellious ones who want it all. in order to have it all - and to keep the ultimate freedom we cherish, we can't just stand in one place in an effort to "conserve" our traditions, cultures, way of life. As always, a strong American future is going to take vision, courage, a lot of creativity, perseverence, and work with the global community.

Socialism? Hardly, Say Socialists

Under Obama, socialism chatter has permeated the media in 2009. But beyond sound bites, what is socialism?

Anyone else catch Geraldine Ferraro on Fox news last night discussing it? She made some very good points and pretty effectively said Palin was done - the book was tacky and her opinions in it would alienate the conservative base she is supposed to appeal to.

All the conservatives I know LOVE SP!

I also saw a post today from one of my "friends" on FB.

It said "I have a prayer for our President: Psalm 109:8"

I posted back "At least you didn't pray for Psalm 109:9"

And she posted back and LOL'd all ha ha hee hee oh good thing ha ha some more.....

And I de-friended her. SHE is a HUGE SP fan!

Not saying all SP fans would quote the Psalm for our President, but several and I mean several checked the LIKE button!

Levi.....OK....He needs to be run through a wood chipper

But Sarah...Her only problem is that she's a conservative woman, a very attractive one at that, and I seriously dont think either side knows how to handle it.

You really think she is a very attractive one?:idontno: You must have been looking at those big nursing t--'s versus her total body. :floor: And you must have one of those bumper stickers on your truck.

I had to google Psalm 109.9 to see what the hail it had to say. good grief! you have got to be kidding. When I hear people quoting bible verses in order to tear down others I just want to laugh out loud and thank God that when I went to sunday school, the catholic church did not feel the need to shove verses down my throat. didn't understand it for a long time - but now I think I do.

when I first saw Palin on TV after McCain's announcement of his VP pick, I thought she was really attractive- especially for a governor. that impression quickly evaporated with each and every word she spoke. I listened and I could see her so much more clearly. amazing how that works.

 The American version of the Taliban.
Apparently, t-shirts and bumper stickers are appearing with this Psalm, which in my opinion, are one and the same practically between 109.8 and 109.9. It's a prayer to make the children fatherless and the wife a widow in both psalms. I don't understand how any Christian could wish and pray for this to happen to any President. Even scarier, how can the Republican party not stand up and denounce this? What about the Church?

Palin is a healthy and pleasant-looking 40something woman. I'm still not sure how the Runner's World/Newsweek picture is supposed to be sexist; you can find any number of Mike Huckabee pictures where he's showing more skin.

I totally disagree. I think many die hard "liberals" on this board would know how to handle a successful conservative - educated - woman. In fact I'd bet the farm that if this were say Kaye Bailey Hutchison the dialog would be totally different - don't you think?

It has NOTHING to do with left or right but EVERYTHING to do with the fact that she is not qualified to run for office and don't think for one second that running in 2012 is not her goal here. She is a deer shootin' beer drinkin' kinda gal. That's who she is. She is not well read, not educated about history or current events and not qualified to run.

That's how I see it anyway for what its worth.

Betcha you are correct on all said!

Oh, and I agree with this too. She knowingly posed for the photo, and it is a perfect representation of who she is. Draped flag, Blackberries, shorts and all. I think MORE offensive is that Newsweek has stopped pretending to be anything but a publication for the winky winky liberal elites. Too bad. But sexist, no.

Scooterbug44, I love your caption "The Enemy is Ignorance". it reminds me of back in 1985 when I was on a transition team activating the Second United States Army Military Intelligence Command....Another female Captain and I came up with the unit motto "Victory through Knowledge" and it was accepted by the Military Historical Society. You gave me an idea of what to put as mine.

Thanks you.

Yes, but not because of his dietary habits, and I'm not looking for a role model, which apparently is something many on the right so deperately crave. Sad, true, but at the same time hysterically funny.

well it is a good thing you weren't looking for a roll model in Obama because you sure would have been disappointed...not sure what folks thought his Change and his Hope meant....Obama's Dictionary is very different than mine on those two words!

I think he's a wonderful role model- it's been pretty unanimous that he tries his best to treat those around him with dignity and respect, has a clearly loving and strong relationship with his wife and children and has taken advantage of his opportunities in life to do far better than a lot of people with his background would.

Totally agree with you on that. Not a fan of his politics, but he makes a great role model for kids. Young, energetic, loving and faithful to his wife, excellent father. Lets hope he keeps his nose clean for his term, and I think he will. He's carrying a lot of responsibility on his shoulders, which I'm pretty sure he's aware of.

President Obama drinks beer...he's a hoop shootin' beer drinkin' kinda guy who smokes. That's who he is. He is not well read, not educated about history or finance and was not qualified to run. But he did, and he won.

That's how I see it.

If Ms. Palin is as unqualified and ignorant as many say, it should be a goal for people who don't believe in conservative platforms to have her run against President Obama in 2012. I think the anger/fear/animosity directed toward her is disproportionate to her actions.

:idontno: Maybe it really does have nothing to do with left or right, but I don't think it has anything to do with her qualifications or lack thereof either. I can't fathom what about her evokes such passion for or against.
