I have had a buring question about compound words, but keep forgetting to ask. BTW...I like asking all y'all rather than the handy dandy google because the possibility of humor is compelling! Feel free to ask your own questions about the English language and it's use...don't be shy...there will be no ridicule on this thread (I hope!)

Why am I have issues with compound words these days? I used to be a compound word queen, but lately they all look like run on words. What makes a compound word, well, compound?

I have issues with these as well. However, I can help you with some spelling. ;-)

buring = burning
have = having

Compound words come from attractive forces between words. Take dogcatcher for instance, a catcher of dogs. Then there is dogma, a dog's mother. Dogmatic, a parasitic insect on a dog's mother. Finally, dogmatist, one who hypnotizes the dog's mother. Also dogooder, somebody who oods dogs.
