Until they remove their septic tanks from the beach.

From the BCC AGenda:

Gulf Trace Owners Association (SWCC Note: The Board packet indicates this item involves a proposed Gulf Trace restoration project submitted by an individual. The project was submitted for the Early Restoration NRDA funding. You will recall NRDA (Natural Resource Damage Assessment) involves liability of BP for natural resource and use of resource impacts from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. It is different from The Restore Act. BP has chosen to fund up to one billion dollars in Early Restoration project funding for projects in the five impacted Gulf states to offset its ultimate liability. The proposed project involves beach restoration, placement of a dune walkover, planting sea oats and dune restoration in the Gulf Trace area.)

I don't see how any of the proposed projects can be tied to the oil spill. Seems like they are just looking for somebody else to foot the bill for what should be the HOA's responsibilities.

Yes they are looking for BP to foot the bill for a beach and community they don't respect. Look at the BS below about being a turtle friendly community. Yeah I bet the turtles love it when they try to dig nests in septic tank drain field on the beach! They want BP to give them money so they can dump extra sand on their septic tanks.

Meadows also talked about the Gulf Trace Owners Association. She said they have submitted a claim to BP. Meadows says the residents want to build sand dunes at Gulf Trace. She asked the commission to send a letter of support for the project. Meadows says the money is not from the pots the county is tapping into. Representatives from Gulf Trace said they have several projects and are asking for the support after a recommendation from Fish and Wildlife. They told commissioners the oil spill displaced workers and brought oil to their shores. This resulted in a drop of evaluations. Commissioners were told they had up to 20 beach inspectors walking and driving on the beach and the result was sand disrupted. This caused the sand to wash away. Commissioners were told part of the $400,000 they are asking for is to build the dunes, something touted to help sea turtles in the turtle friendly community. Commissioners asked if the money would not take away from Walton’s share. Commissioner Sara Comander said she had received comments that not all residents feel the same way. Commissioner Bill Chapman asked about turtle assessments before and after. Gulf Trace would like to get the project done before turtle nesting season starts in May. Commissioner Meadows said this type of project means more money coming in and it is not from the taxpayers. Anita Page said the money is from NRDA.

With two out, Commissioners will hear the issue later this month, when all commissioners are present.

I'm so sick of all the vultures wanting BP money, especially those TV shysters. How much did all those slimeball lawyers get from BP?

I am with the first poster. The county ought to require hooking up to the sewer system as a condition of support for this project.

Not just hookup, but removal of all septic tanks prior to any money or projects being approved.
