With the recent and severe weather that hit the Gulf Coast on April 29th, the Habitat for Humanity of Walton County ReStore was submerged in over two feet of standing water. The Habitat for Humanity ReStore was set to open for the first time next week in their new location off Hwy 393 South before the record flooding impacted the area. All inventory is a total loss along with significant damage to the building. Unfortunately, their insurance will not cover the damage sustained to the contents or building due to the cause being flooding. Immediate resources and assistance are needed.
The Habitat for Humanity ReStore accepts donations of new and gently used building materials and household furnishings. The Walton County Habitat ReStore sells these goods at a fraction of their retail price and uses the proceeds to achieve Habitat’s mission to build homes, communities and hope. The ReStore also serves as a resource for local families with its inventory of low cost furnishings, appliances and building items. And the ReStore provides an environmentally and socially responsible way to keep reusable materials out of landfills. Many uninsured families have rebuilt or refurnished their homes, after a casualty, from the Habitat ReStore inventory.
The Habitat for Humanity Walton County ReStore serves many families and their children in our area. Last year the Walton County Habitat for Humanity ReStore ran over 4,334 transactions for local individuals and families. The ReStore supports their operational costs and is the largest contributor to their budget.
"Like our families we’re not looking for a handout as much as a hand up," says Teresa Imdieke, Executive Director of the Habitat for Humanity of Walton County, FL., Inc. "Habitat is looking for assistance to help fund the repairs and volunteers to allow our ReStore to become operational again, so that we can continue to build for the well deserving families in our community. Habitat is more than just about housing the needy, it’s an investment in our community’s future. Please consider making a donation to our organization"
