Hallmark Channel has bought the rights to this wonderful movie directed and starring Richard Gere based on the true story of Hachiko, the famous Akita that went to the train station every day for over 9 years after the passing of his Japanese master.

If you have not seen this movie it is one of the most moving films I have seen in a long time. Be prepared with a very large box of tissues though. It is worth the tears to see it.

It will be shown again on the Hallmark Channel on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 8 central.

My brother, Jack, was stationed in Japan with the Navy and has been to the train station, where they have a statue erected in honor of the dog and his master. I haven't had a chance to see the movie yet, but my mother said she cried like a baby, in the best possible way!

Kitlit, the story of the orginial Hachiko is a fascinating tale of what loyal creatures dogs can be.

The Japanese version of the movie with subtitles is available on YouTube. I loved the Richard Gere version so much I watched the Japanese one too.

There are also several fascinating videos on Youtube with behind the scenes filming. The ability of the dog handler to train these Akitas was remarkable.

In one interview Richard Gere said the dogs that played Hachi were the stars in this movie, he was doing good to get a supporting role.

One interview about the orginial Hachiko said the statue is a favorite meeting place for couples on blind dates, because it is well known by everyone. Many have come back and gotten married there.

I watched it online after Minnie told me about it. I had to do it in two nights. I get chills just thinking about it. I wept....glad I saw it by myself so I could just take it in and process it. Beautiful message, beautiful movie!

I bought the movie today. With all my beautiful sweet puppies soon to be leaving, I will keep this as a reminder of what it's like to leave a dog behind, and for it not to forget you.

I thought this was a really interesting story about love and loyalty as well as a dog's place in community and other things such as individual behavior & habits of dogs/pets. Hachi was obviously extremely independent and maybe a tad compulsive - all mixed in with his fierce loyalty. I did not cry my eyeballs out as I did in Marley & Me. But enjoyed it very much.
