Hello SoWal,

This is my favorite time of year. The weather is perfect, the gulf is beautiful, and the beaches are free of crowds for a little while. Now is the perfect time to get those exterior repairs completed before the temps start heating up. This environment is tough on wood and metal. Wood rot abounds and you can almost watch the rust grow on metal surfaces. While you?re enjoying the weather, take a few moments to check your exterior porch and deck rails, deck boards, wood siding, doorframes and any other wood surfaces around your home. An easy test for wood rot is to push your fingernail or a key (if you don?t want to mar your manicure) up against the wood. If the wood is soft enough for your nail or key to penetrate, you probably have a problem that needs to be addressed. Also check metal doors, gutters, and deck or porch screws for rust. Rust may not be as obvious if it is hidden under painted surfaces. The paint may show signs of bubbling up before you can actually see the rust. If you spot any signs of the aforementioned issues, give Handyman Connection a call at 850-622-5262 or email us at hmcdestin@earthlink.net and we?ll give you a free evaluation and estimate. The sooner you have these problems addressed the less the cost will be and the safer you and your home will be.

Have a great and safe week!
