According to the Florida State Watch Office, their meteorological summary indicates severe weather events possible overnight and Tuesday.

Additionally,

• A squall line of strong to severe thunderstorms will move into the Florida Panhandle early Tuesday morning and continue eastward along the I-10 corridor. It is important to note that the delineation of severe weather is only for the timeline of the forecast; the severe weather threat will continue to expand further east on Tuesday.

• This squall line will be capable of producing widespread damaging wind gusts of 60-70 mph and embedded tornadoes along the leading edge as it matures along the Florida Panhandle.

• Heavy rainfall rates may lead to instances of flash flooding and ponding of water over low-lying and poor drainage areas of the Florida Panhandle tonight into Tuesday morning.

• High Wind Watches and Warnings will go into effect later this evening and overnight as wind gusts of 45-55 mph can be expected across the Florida Panhandle; locally higher wind gusts reaching 60 mph cannot be ruled out along the immediate coastal communities Tuesday morning.

• Strong onshore winds will work to develop a coastal flood threat along the Florida Panhandle.

• Dangerous beach and boating conditions can be expected along all Florida coastlines today; a moderate to high risk of rip currents can be expected statewide, with elevated wave heights building over both Gulf and Atlantic waters.

• High Surf Advisories and Warnings will go into effect along the Florida Panhandle coastline later this afternoon and evening, with wave heights of 8-13’ possible.

Schools will be closed in Walton County on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
