Whenever we're at the pet store the kids always beg to buy a new hamster. (the last one died 2 years ago) I always tell them that if they wanted one so bad that they would remember this when they're at home and clean out the old cage.And until they did that I wouldn't buy one. Well guess what? They cleaned the cage today. So yippee! I get to go hamster shopping. :roll: The good news is they are fine about sharing one dwarf hamster thus sharing the resposibilities. Oh, and they've already picked out the name. First we had Nibbles, then came Cuddles and our new arrival...::drum roll::...Snuggles.

Congrats on the addition to your family. Good thing your sticking with one...I don't care what they tell you at the pet store, 2 always seems to turn into 8!!!

Mine is almost 9 and the best, sweetest dog I have ever had. They don't shed, hypoalergenic (supposed to be....like a poodle) all around great dog.

Have you ever tried to take a picture of a new baby hamster running a mile a minute? It's not easy! Snuggles has now been renamed Lewis. We don't know if it's a he or a she but Lewis it is. Lewis is my tar...oh my gosh, I just misspelled tar and it came out as rat!!! I try not to think of them as rats. He is kinda cute and hasn't bitten us yet. All is good.


Gross hamster trip report!

We arrived at the pet store and the kids rushed back to the hamster area. There were two heaps of hamsters at opposite corners of the display. We were specifically looking for a dark grey or black one. Dylan got really excited and said -hey look there's a little baby under one of them and he's pink! I thought, aww, how cute. Then we saw another under a different hamster. These things were like the size of a jelly bean! I thought..oooh, they should not be in there. So I got the attention of one of the salespeople and they went to get a box so they could scoop them out. Meantime, we are playing with the others and trying to choose our little pet. Samantha let out a scream..EEWWWW it's eating it!!!We should have walked away at that point but we didn't. They were too intent on bringing a little friend home. The sales clerk returned and we told her what happened and she scooped up the babies and scattered the heap. There were 4-5 babies but evidence of more. She was trying to figure out which one was the mama. Not sure they ever did. Let's just say we chose a very small one from the other side of the display that had been sleeping. Really wish we wouldn't have seen that. I'm just glad there weren't really little kids around. Enough to scar them for life.
